Chapter Two

Going Nuclear

We walked through the woods.
"There is nothing to kill out here" 10k complained
"I'm fine with that" Warren shrugged
10k and I have become somewhat close over the past few weeks.
"We need to set up camp my dogs are tired" Doc said
I sighed
We stopped and Murphy and Warren argued over if we were lost or not
"Hey guys check that out" 10k said and I saw a few buildings and a truck. We walked towards it and into a building.
"Oh look!" Murphy said grabbing a random jug of water and drinking out of it
"What are you doing that could melt your insides!" Doc exclaimed
"So?" Murphy asked taking another drink
I rolled my eyes and a Zombie made its way toward us. We jumped behind a wall. I stood behind 10k. Warren went to kill it but more showed up. Some people on hazardous suits showed up and killed them and took us to their home and fed us.
"Emilia we need you to get Murphy out of here" Warren said
"He is the only known survivor of a zombie bite" she prompted and I did a spit take with the water I had been drinking.
"He what?!" I exclaimed
"We forgot to tell you?" Doc asked and I rolled my eyes. We were ounce again back at the nuclear plant. Grady was taking Warren,Cassandra and Doc with him to fry the reactor.
Warren had told Emilia and Murphy to man the gate and for 10k to cover them and I to cover 10k from the fence. 10k was squatted beside me with his sniper sniping the zombies. I sat next to him my back against the fence resting.
"Wanna try?" 10k asked offering me the gun. I took the gun and moved so I could see through the scope. I aimed at a zombie and pulled the trigger the zombie fell dead. I smiled seeing that. I handed the gun back to 10k.
"Your a good shot" he commented
"Thanks" I shrugged sitting once again with my back against the fence. The others were back and we were just waiting on Grady.
"Here he comes!" Called Murphy and he opened the gate.
"Dad no!" Screamed Emilia. I guess Grady didn't make it. She cried. I didn't move from where I was. 10k just watched. She told us we could go find homer. 10k and I exchanged glances. We made it to Homer's house.
"This is your kind of setup" Warren told 10k
"Well this place is set up to stop Z's not a team so watch out for mines,trip wires and you will be fine" 10k said
"Alright. 10k, Emilia your with me. Doc Cassandra and Thirteen go around front" Warren ordered. I felt kinda sad I wasn't with 10k I mean he was the closest thing to a friend I had.
"Ok, let's go" I said and we started moving to the house. I turned a corner and was kicked.
"Agh!" I screamed as I fell.
"You have three seconds to explain or you are dead!" He yelled pointing a gun at me. My head hurt from the fall so I felt a groggy.
"Hm?" I asked rubbing my head and realization somewhat hit and I was scared.
"I can't let you do that Mr.Stevens" someone said putting a knife to homer's neck.
"10k?" I asked seeing him. Warren and Emilia had their guns pointed at homer
10k gave me a small smile.
"Alright, I'll help you" homer finally agreed. I stood up i started to follow homer like he rest of the group but got dizzy. I fell back and arms caught me.
"Are you alright?" 10k asked
"I don't know" I breathed out the world seemed to be spinning.
I put my arm around his shoulders and he put his around my waist to help support me. He helped me walk into the house. He sat me on the couch and I smiled at him great fully. Cassandra shot a glare my way. I have never been more confused. They were talking to homer in the kitchen and I just layed on the couch. My head stopped hurting. I must have hit it when homer kicked me. I stood and walked into the kitchen. Conversation seemed to stop and everyone looked at me.
"Uh...Hi?" I said awkwardly
"Do you need weapons?" Homer asked I nodded and so did doc. Homer lead us into another room he gave me a pistol and a machete along with amo. I tied the machete around my waist like Warren. Warren, Emilia and Murphy went to get the helicopter ready. Doc,Cassandra and I were to escort homer and 10k in. As for 10k and Homer, they were going to fry the reactor.
"Ready?" Cassandra asked as we stood at the doors
"Hell yea" I said and we burst through the doors. I raised my gun and we started shooting.
After a while 10k and Homer went into a room.
"You guys have to go, we will meet you back at the gate" 10k told Doc. I looked at him and his eyes met mine for a few seconds it stayed that way.
"Let's go" Cassandra said grabbing my arm and doc followed suit. We made it to the gate and I took off the suit we needed to wear and through it on the ground. I had my regular cloths on underneath. I sat my back to the fence like I did before except 10k wasn't beside me. He was still inside with homer trying to save us. I was nervous they wouldn't make it out but if I knew 10k he would be fine. I must have fallen asleep eventually I woke up hearing the sound of the gate. 10k walked through the gate doc handed him a bag and 10k threw it behind him. He looked pissed off. Where was hom- ohhhhh. Doc and Cassandra started to talk to him but he didn't seem to be listening. I walked up to him and placed my hand on his shoulder. He looked down at me and I have him a sad smile.
"He gave his life to save ours." I reminded him
"But there was no reason for him to die" 10k snapped
"He didn't want to live in this world, the same world that his son died in. He wanted to be with his son again." I comforted him. He gave me a small sad smile. Then Warren pulled up in a golf cart like thing.
"Well if it isn't my wife coming back from Costco" doc said
"Who would want to marry you?" Warren joked
"A lot of lady's with good taste" doc countered
"And where do we go because we lost patient zero?" Doc pointed out and then a panting Murphy walked over the hill with zombie Emilia. He made a big deal about not mercying her. Warren was driving, Murphy was in the passenger side in the next row of seats was doc and Cassandra and on the back rack thing sat me and 10k. He had his arm around me as Warren drove. It was night and I was tired. Doc Cassandra and Murphy were alseep. Warren kept driving and 10k sat awake beside me.
"Why don't you sleep, I don't think I'll be getting much" he shrugged
"But I'll fall" I protested and he reached into his bag that rested near him and he pulled out a rope. He tied it to the bar next to him and he leaned over me, tying the other side of the rope on the bar next to me. He pulled it tight so the rope acted as a safety belt.
"There we go, now you can sleep without falling" he said proudly. I put my head on his shoulder and snuggled up beside him. He put his arm around my shoulders.
"Thank you, for everything" I said before letting sleep take over.
