I freeze and then my heart beat kicks up. Did she really have to pair me up with him? Really? the most popular boy in school also the meanest and the hottest. He has fierce blue eyes with brown hair and a perfect smile that is impossible to get without braces. I'm surprised that he ins't a model.

I've heard rumors that he went riding on a motorcycle and had been speeding past cars and got pulled over by a cop and when the cop said, "kids" under his breath Samuel punched him. Samuel, of course, got jail time.

I glance at Samuel and he's glaring at me. I look down. What did I do to him?

He raises his hand and speaks with disdain, " Mrs. Paul, is there any chance that I could get a different partner?"

i press my lips together and blush. A few people look at me. Some showing pity others amusement. I hear soft laughing in the back of the class. I cant believe that he said that in front of the whole class. Now everybody knows Im unwanted I mean who would though, right?

I look at the teacher. Shes shaking her head. I'm hoping that she going to stick up for me.

"No, Mr. Aiken. You do not have a chance for that. Y'all will not have to get together today during class but i do expect for y'all to converse with each other after class. Now what y'all will be doing for the next few weeks or so is creating a Travel Journal. You and your partners can discuss how you're going to split the work."

From there she continues on with the contents we will need in it. For the rest of the class I feel eyes on me but every time I glance up to look for the starer i see no body looking at me. I block out Mrs.Paul and write some more in my journal.

In a short time, I hear the bell ring. I start gathering my things as quickly as I can so that Samuel has no time to confront me. I rush out the door to meet Miracle to walk to class together since we have the same class 2nd period " Nicole!!!" I hear a booming deep voice call. I peek behind me. I notice that Samuel is walking towards me. I turn back around and walk faster. I don't want to make a scene in the hallway and I don't want to talk to him. All he's going to look at his my nose. Plus I cant talk. I wont be able to get out a coherent sentence out.

I see Miracle walking towards me. I grab her arm and walk the opposite way we usually go. " Nicole, what are you doing? Why are we going this way?"

"Nicole!!" I hear him call again. This time angrier then the last time. I turn a corner and scramble to walk into my classroom. Miracle trying to keep up with me. I sit down at my desk and look at the door. I spot Samuel walking past the door. His hands clenched and red face. I exhale the breath I hadn't realized I was holding. I look at Miracle to find her glaring at me.

Man, why is everybody glaring today?

I laugh out of breath nervously. " Well that was interesting, yeah?"

Ignoring what i said she says," Why the hell are you running from Samuel Aiken?"

"I just got partnered up with him in class, that's all." I shrug, feigning nonchalance.

She smirks." oh yeah? really? Now tell me why you were running."

At this point I don't even know why I was running. i mumble." I didn't want to talk to him."

She squints and leans in. "What?"

"I didn't want to talk to him." I say slightly louder.

She sits back." Seriously?"

I nod my head.

She shakes her head." What am I going to do with you? You do know that you are going to have to face him right? And by the looks of it," she points at the door." Its not going to be pretty."

"I know I know." I put my head on the desk.

Realization dawns on me. What am I going to do about lunch. What if he looks for me?
