Chpt 1.

Alex McKal knew it was going to be a long day when he found out that his mother was going out for the entire day without him. But being an only child did mean that he had the whole house to himself, and he didn’t have to worry about any younger sibling. Things weren’t always this way. He did have a younger sister named Sara who died in a car accident with their father when he was 10. Coming up on the end of highschool without a job meant that he had no money and no car. So he did what he always has when his mother leaves the house, read manga and watch anime without any disturbance at all. But as he began to walk up to his room, he was stopped by a very unusual knocking sound coming from the living room closet. Nothing scared this strong willed 17 year old but this was different and he began to question whether or not this was really happening. So natural curiosity took over and he walked down the stairs back down to the living room toward the closet where the knocking sound was coming from. As soon as he went to reach for the doorknob, the sound stopped but Alex’s hand didn’t and right when he opened the door, Alex vanished.

Staring out her bedroom window while absentmindedly rubbing a string of bruises on her arm, Zoie began to wonder if there was a better world that she could escape to. Being bullied at school because she didn’t talk a whole lot to others made her very shy around people and caused her to distance herself from others including her own parents. Adding to her problem was that her father was very abusive and constantly beat her for sport.  The only friends she did have was her dog Charger, which is a strong, protective and playful german shepherd and small stuffed bear that she got as a young child. Though she never gave it a name, she never goes anywhere without it. She constantly worries about losing Charger every time she leaves the house because of her father. She is also the only one in her family who actually takes care of him. While looking at the clouds off in the distance, Zoie was unaware of the cracks starting to form in the glass of her window while she was leaning against it. Moments later the glass shattered which caused Zoie to plummet towards the ground. Charger then heard the glass break and ran up to Zoie’s room to see what had happened but as soon as he barked at the window, Zoie Skye had completely disappeared from this world.

Walking home after a tremendous victory against a rival team, Cameron thought about celebrating by himself since he didn’t have many friends. The only thing he really did enjoy was baseball and he was an all-star not to be challenged. Being the league’s best pitcher with an incredibly high batting average. He didn’t even consider his own teammates as friends but he was ok with that. So he was heading toward a little convenience store that he often goes to, where he will buy himself an ice cold soda with what little allowance money he did have. But there was something different about this warm summer evening and the heat lightning dancing across the sky was abnormal for this area. Cameron choose to ignore it and continued on walking. A light breeze began to pick up which then sent a chill down his back and caused him to stop walking. The sound of a girl crying caught his attention which made him look at a patch of oak trees off to his left. He didn’t see anyone over there but the crying continued so he walked in that direction to only find a small white light hovering by a tree. As soon as he reach out to touch it, a bright flash overtook him and Cameron “Wolf” Phoenix was no longer standing there.

Ignoring the commands to go up to her room that were being thrown at her by her mother, Eva Sharpe grabbed her deck and started for the door, only pausing to turn and scream “I hate you!” before slamming the door behind her. She dropped the board on the driveway, it bounced on its wheels until she stepped on it and pushed off toward her friends who were all gathered on the sidewalk. She smacked the five hands held out to her and asked where they were heading knowing already that they were on their way to Cassie’s house to catch a few waves. Luke confirmed it and showed her the he had learned to ollie, since he has only been boarding for a few weeks. She thought that she should show off and cut down a driveway, did a grind on a handrail beside the sidewalk and turned around to ride backwards down the road. Distracted by a cell-phone, the driver of a tan minivan sped around the corner, unknowingly speeding toward Eva. Quickly, her friends shouted warnings but they were too late. The van past them leaving behind nothing but Eva’s broken skateboard.

Trying to find some peace while strumming on his new hardwood, acoustic guitar that he just received for his 16th birthday a few days ago, Michail didn’t know that he was about to get the best gift he could ever imagine. Being together for almost a year now with this girl who really only likes him because he is good at playing the guitar hasn’t been much fun. He really doesn’t like her but he doesn’t want to hurt her feeling by trying to break up with her so he is basically stuck with her. Continuing on with his guitar, Michail was unaware that that Julie was heading toward his house to come and listen to him play. From the back porch of his house, he heard the doorbell ring and proceeded to head to the front door. But what he didn’t notice was that the sliding glass door was mysteriously locked from the inside and so the door wouldn’t move. Michail tried to force the door open but it would not budge and he then noticed a drastic change in temperature around him but choose to ignore it. As soon as Julie realized that the front door was unlocked, she walk inside and looked across the hallway to see Michail banging on the sliding glass door from the outside. So as she began to walk over to him, she then stopped at her at amazement to see Michail Redd just vanish into thin air leaving behind his new guitar.

Familiar faces glance at each other as handcuffs are placed on Crystal Hurias’s hands after being caught selling drugs again by the same pair of police officers. Wondering why this is the 5th time that she has been arrested, the officers question her about it but she still refuses to give them an answer. The truth behind it all is that she is the oldest of five children in her family but her mother died shortly after giving birth to the 5th child and her father then just walked out on them leaving all the children in the custody of her aunt. But not even her aunt will take care of any of them because she thinks its too much work taking care of 5 children so 15 year-old Crystal is all that is left to support herself and 4 younger siblings. So in order to be able to buy food for her family, she has resorted to selling illegal drugs as a way to make a lot of money but it comes at a price. Now this being her 5th time being caught, the officers finally decide to take her down to the station instead of to her aunt and keep her there overnight. Hearing this, as she was stood up to be walked over to the cruiser, she spit in the face of one of the officers and was then thrown into the back of the car.
