***** 2 years later******
"So, class, in conclusion, the mystical creatures we call Elves are not real. Yes, there is much evidence saying there are some in this very area, hiding amongst the trees, hiding in plain sight. But how do we know? How do we know that we are not the only intelligent creatures in this world? I want all of you to write me an essay, three pages minimum, more than one paragraph per page Maxwell, and I want it by the day you return home from vacation. Class dismissed." Mrs. Bueller said to my college class, they all groaned as they left.
I had been living in the real world for two years now, and I have not been persecuted or turned away for having weird ears and a strange accent. In fact, many people found it cool. When people ask me where I'm from, I say Greenland. I don't know why. And they find my white hair fun to play with.
As I gathered up my school books, I realized that the rest of the class had already left. Everyone hates this class, all except me. Myths and Creatures of the Unknown is what its called. Which is also why Mrs. Bueller takes a strange interest in me. And that's why she called me to her desk as I headed to the door. Damn it.
"Yes, ma'am?"
"Ms. Nicole, I believe that you should not write this essay. True, your view of the world of the mythological is absolutely stunning, but this essay is too easy for you."
"What do you mean by 'easy'? And I thought that you would love to read my essay, I already have a topic and everything!"
"That's why. You know too much about these things, and I don't buy your whole 'I moved from Greenland' act. You came from Razzi-Flo Kita tribe, don't you? I know that accent anywhere."
My heart did a somersault. How did she know of my home? "I.... I don't know what you mean..."
"Bull. I too am from the tribe. I left when I was a child, just exploring was all. But they wouldn't let me in. I haven't been able to see my family! Do you know how much it pains me?" She rose to her full height, and brushed away her hair. Sure enough, she did have pointed ears. "My parents had been discussing a courtship for me, to Don-Kia Tu! I hated myself for years! This is what happens when you leave, child. You go mad!"
"You should be glad! If you hadn't have left, then you would be the wife of a abusive drunk. He is cruel to his wife as well as his only child, and all he does is drink!" All the memories I had tried to get rid of were now surfacing. The pain my father gave me, the scars...
The rage in her eyes were replaced with grief. "He... beats his child...? How could the boy I knew grow up to be like that...? And how do you know so much?" Sudden realization dawned on her. "You are his daughter, aren't you?"
"And I am glad I left. I left because I hated that place. The village has only been a place of pain for me." I hissed. "Would you like me to write that essay or not?"
"Don't. just go. I will see you in two weeks, ms...?
"Tina-Ani Ni. I will see you soon, teacher."
In other words, this strange world has not been a total nightmare. I met a really sweet guy (of which I thought was impossible) named Tobi. He was truly kind to everyone and I knew he liked me. We had gone on several dates, but we both knew that we weren't meant to be.... He says that even though we aren't together, we are still friends, which is odd to me. Oh well.
I have also gotten a new best friend, named Rose. She is currently my roommate in the dorms of my college. It turns out that she also had run away from home. She claims that she is a dragon-shifter, and that me being a Forsaken Elf is perfect, seeing as we were both outcasts. She knows me better than I know myself.
Apparently, she also has a brother, also a dragon. But he doesn't look like her at all. She has curly silver-blonde hair (like me) and green eyes, while her brother is a blue-eyed redhead. Notice I didn't call him a freaking ginger. I swear, when people see a redhead, they call them a ginger, and therefore the poor kid has no soul. Bullcrap.
I have never met him, but she says he's a really good guy. According to Rose, shifters have mates, as in soulmates. She hasn't found hers yet, as well as her brother. He has searched the world over for her, but she wont appear to him. which is why he was coming here, in two days, which meant I had to clean up. And lets just say this, Rose and I are messy tenants, and she wont clean for anything.
Crap. I did not want to have to deal with her brother, as well as her. I better get cleaning...
