the place that i feel safest
is the inside of my eyelids
where no one else can tell me
what to see or
how to feelnobody can hurt me
if my eyes are closed
and if i can't see my monsters
everybody knows
they can't see mefriends turn to foxes
and the wolves chase me down
they're hungry, starving
begging for a bitebut before they can catch me
sink their teeth into my skin
i trip and fall and tumble
into a hole in the groundit's sAFE in here
safety not in nUMBERS
but in sOLITUDEnobody can hurt me
if i can't hear them
my hands over my ears
serve as my shield
deflecting, protectingthey think I'm weird - i know they do
it's true, i'm not like them
i'm vulnerable, exposed
a snail without its shellthat's why the place where i feel safest
is the inside of my eyelids
where no one else can hurt me
if i don't let them in
