i see it dance in your eyes
weave copper-gold flames
through your hair

radiate from your smile
pull me to you
like a moth to an iridescent bonfire

i stand, frozen in place
paralyzed heart unable to beat
unable to feel

i watch, envious of your heat
effortlessly glowing
the sun to my dark side

a warm hand on a cold one
melt me from the inside out
thaw my frozen body

"wHY tAKE mY hAND
wHEN iT'S sTONE cOLD?"
i ask,

"yOU cOULD hOLD sOMEONE eLSE'S aND tHEY wOULDN'T
sTEAL yOUR hEAT."

"bUT yOU cOOL mE dOWN,"
you reply,
"yOU bALANCE mE oUT."

gradually my hand warms
and your hand cools
until they're the same temperature

then you look at me
a smile shining from your eyes
and say,

"nOW dO yOU sEE
tHAT wE'RE nOT sO
dIFFERENT aFTER aLL?"
