It was dark, pitch black, not a drop of light. Whispers drifted across her from every corner. There was no way out, nor was there a way in. It was just black, and dark, and creepy. She feared something would pop up and grab her and smother her. But apart from the ghostly whispers she was all alone.
Till she heard laughter.
She turned quickly at the sound, but instead of finding a person who she knew of laughing, she spotted the back of an unknown woman. The woman was tall and pale and had red hair down to her mid-back. This woman couldn't have been much older than her.
And then white lines began to form into large circles right in front of her and they turned to glass. She stared for a moment - the glass shattered unexpectedly, causing her to stumble back and fall. A woman screamed, a baby cried, a man cackled - all at once.
Emma woke instantly, sitting upright in her bed where she could finally feel moisture on her face. She was sweating...she shouldn't have been sweating. Like Crabbe and Goyle's bum sweat, it was winter. She glanced around, still breathing heavily, to see that all the other girls were still asleep. There was a ringing sound in her ears. The woman was still screaming and Emma was confused as ever when she seen that the other girls could not hear it too.
Emma never had weird dreams like this before. She would occasionally dream of being chased by a mob of banshees or that she had switched genders but this dream was a whole lot different. It didn't make any sense. Emma could be chased by banshees. Emma could have a sex change. But Emma would never be in a pitch black room, see a red headed woman, see a pair of glasses forming on the walls, hear a woman scream, a baby cry or a man cackling.
It would never happen.
Emma decided to just forget about it and fall asleep, believing that she could just dream of nothing for the rest of the night. She'd heard that that was normally what happened after a nightmare - you dream of nothing for the rest of the night. But that was not what her dream state had in store for her.
She was back in the same room as before, and she could hear herself cursing though she didn't remember actually saying it. She meant to curse in her head, not aloud. She searched the room for any sign of an escape but there was nothing. She raced toward what she believed to be the end of the room, but it was never ending and she was running toward nothing.
"What the hell!" She cursed again, not understanding why she was thinking aloud. She didn't mean to be. "I want to wake up!"
The room gave her a very unhappy feeling. It made her feel grief, fear, sadness, insecure, horrified, unconfident. There was not a speck of happiness found in the room.
She heard someone laugh again, though this time it was not a woman. It was a boy. She whirled around. It was Crabbe and Goyle standing beside each other while Draco stood further in front of them, as he usually did.
Draco had a large grin on his face, but it was not a friendly one. It was more of a 'you're pathetic and I'm not' type of grin. She figured this time the room was forcing people to think aloud. Crabbe and Goyle were thinking aloud very much. They were talking to each other about Voldemort and Deatheaters and such, and then they faded leaving just Draco. Even though this was a dream and Emma was quite awake in it, she knew she was only dreaming of him because they had an argument.
"You're pathetic," he said casually, and when Draco's eyes widened she knew he didn't mean to say that out loud. "It makes me laugh, you know? When you actually try and stop me from liking you."
