Age: 19
I was full of excitement as the maids buzzed around the ballroom. Decorations hung from the walls and the tables were set beautifully. I couldn't wait to see the girls' costumes.
I was down to the Elite now. Things with the rebels were building, and I couldn't risk putting so many people's lives in danger, so I decided to cut the competition down.
I decided that I had spent enough time admiring the decor, so I turned on my heel and started heading out of the huge room.
I was tempted to go to America's room, but figured it would be best if I went and got ready for the party tonight.

Up in my room, I glanced my costume over again in the mirror. I was a pretty good looking pirate if I had to say so myself.
I remembered that the girls would be in costumes too, and I couldn't prevent myself from getting giddy about it.
Another glance in the mirror, and I decided that I was presentable enough. I walked out of my quarters and set off for the ballroom once more.

The girls hadn't arrived yet, so I helped myself to refreshments while I waited.
The doors opened, and in walked Kris, Celeste, Natalie, Elise, Marlee, and America.
Their costumes filled the room with color, but I couldn't help but notice America. It appeared to me that she was some sort of fairy.
I waited for my chance to dance with her. I waited, and waited, and waited. Finally, it was time.
We danced, and tried to make small talk.
"This was a great idea, America. Halloween, I mean," I said while swaying to the music.
She giggled, and I couldn't help but smile.
"And you look... Stunning."
"And you look like a pirate," she acknowledged.
I threw my head back in laughter. "Thanks for noticing."
We danced until the song ended. But before America could slip away, I reached up quickly and tugged my ear. She nodded, and I turned to go ask Celeste to dance... Again.
I didn't notice at first, but America wasn't a fairy. She was a butterfly. And probably the most beautiful butterfly to spread its wings.

Becoming Prince Maxon
FanfictionThis is how I imagine Maxon's take on the Selection. This is NOT based on The Prince. Most chapters are very different, and I have made my own changes to Keira's story. I do not own any of the characters.
