(Ok. So this is like at the end of The Selection-not the entire series, just the book- so just know that I've skipped like the entire middle part of the book... It's also strait from the book- changed to Maxon's POV)

Age:19

I was taking America to a movie. That's when I met him...
••••

"... What kinds of movies do you like best?" I asked as we started walking towards the stairwell to the basement.

"Honestly, I don't know. I don't get to watch a lot of movies. But I like romantic books. And comedies too!"

"Romance, you say?" I raised my eyebrows like I was up to no good. America laughed.

We turned a corner and continued to talk. As we approached, a mass of the palace guard pulled to the side of the hall and saluted. There had to be more than a dozen men standing in the hallway. But, of course, I was used to them.

A gasp escaped someone's mouth as we passed. America and I both turned.

There was a guard that I had never seen before with black hair and green eyes. America gasped, too, at the sight of him.

I noticed the shock in both of their eyes.

"America, do you know this young man?"

She didn't answer right away. She studied the recruit's hair and form. She gazed deep into his eyes, all the while I was studying her. Her eyes fell on his name tag last.

It hadn't even been a second, but it felt like eternity before she answered.

America cleared her throat. "Yes. Officer Leger comes from Carolina. He's actually from my hometown." She smiled at me.

This was exciting! "Well, how about that! Welcome, Officer Leger. You must be happy to see your Champion Girl again." I held out my hand and the new officer shook it.

His face was like a stone. "Yes, Your Majesty. Very much so."

"I'm sure you're pulling for her, too," I encouraged as I winked at America.

"Of course, Your Majesty." Leger bowed his head a bit.

"Excellent. Since America is from your home province, I can't think of a better man in the palace to leave her with. I'll make sure you're put on her guard rotation. This girl refuses to keep a maid in her room at night. I've tried to tell her..." I shook my head at her.

The new guard relaxed a bit. "I'm not surprised by that, Your Majesty."

I smiled. "Well, I'm sure you all have a busy day ahead of you. We'll just be off. Good day, officers." I gave a quick nod and pulled America away.
