The incident at Sasha’s party had ruined my mood in the first week of my summer break. And the fact that Kirsten still hadn’t yet replied to my texts and calls made me mad. I threw my phone to my bed and tousled my hair, irritated. I knew it would be my worst summer ever.

It was Sunday night and I was in my room, staring at my phone screen. I pressed speed dial number one then put the phone in my ear. I’d been dialing Kirsten’s number for thousand times since this morning, hoping to hear her voice on the other line but she hadn’t answered any call of mine.

“Please Kirsten, pick up the phone,” I mumbled anxiously.

I had a bad feeling about Kirsten. Not sure where this feeling came from, but it totally disturbed me. All I want was her answering my call. And I was surprised when a loud music and the crowded sound of people laughing and talking filled my ear after the phone had been picked up.

“Kirsten??” I immediately called her name. “Are you okay? Where-”

“Whoa, hold on!” Kirsten chuckled. “Who’s this?”

I was silent for a moment. “Are you drunk?” I asked even though I was certain she was drunk just by hearing her voice tone.

“Me? Drunk?” I heard her laughing drunkenly. “No, I’m not drunk! I’m not- Stan, stop touching me… Stan, stop…”

I tightened my grip on my phone. Suddenly, I felt angry. What are they doing? I didn’t know what I did after that, but when I realized I’d stopped my car in front of the night club, climbed out of the car, and slammed the car door. I was thankful when I saw the bouncer wasn’t that guy who had kicked me out two weeks ago.

I guessed today was my luck because the entrance was quite crowded so I just stepped over the door along with them and I made it. I could successfully sneak into the night club. As soon as I was in, I quickened my pace through the corridor.

I stopped walking when I was on the dance floor. Sexy and I know It was playing at a deafening volume and a bunch of drunk people were writhing around enthusiastically. Facing the dappled light from the disco ball, overwhelmingly smell of beer, and smoke from cigarettes around the place, made me feel like vomiting. I wanted to get out of this shit place as soon as possible but I had to find Kirsten first.

My eyes scanned the entire room, trying to find her while keeping myself away from the guard. Then my sight rested on a couple making out in the booth. I noticed the guy one was Stan but I was sure the girl wasn’t Kirsten. Her hair colour was darker than Kirsten’s.

My fists tightened by my sides as I stomped through the crowd. When I already stood over them, I grabbed Stan’s shirt, pulled him up, and before he could make any defensive action I threw a punch right at his cheek. His body made a sound of thud as it fell down on the floor. The girl he was making out with let out a shriek and the crowd gasped at the same time.

“That was for what you’ve done to Kirsten!” I shouted through my teeth. Without letting Stan or anyone saying anything, I started shifting away. I’d forgotten that I shouldn’t have been seen, and I was sure the guards were now looking for me.

I elbowed through the crowd until I was at the quieter spot. Trying to regulate my breaths back to normal, I stopped moving. I turned my head, searching for Kirsten. Where’s she? Why’s she nowhere to be seen? But the next second, a blonde girl who had just gotten out of the restroom caught my attention. It was Kirsten, but she looked sick.

I walked fast straight up to her then gripped her wrist. “Kirsten, we have to get out of here! Now!”

“Whoa, whoa, easy boy,” Kirsten chuckled as she got herself off me. Her breath smelled like liquor and then I knew she was drunk. “Why the rush?”
