Penny the Pixie was flying through the forest, with her best friend, Kayla the mermaid, swimming in the lake beside her.

It was a nice, sunny afternoon, and the whole forest was buzzing with wildlife. Penny had to deliver messages to her uncle, who was a centaur.

"Hey Kayla!" She called, and saw the mermaid emerging from the water. "Last one to the old willow tree is a rotten egg!" Cried Penny.

A smile crept onto the mermaid's face, and she prepared her fins for a race. Once they were both ready, they were off. It really was no use for a mermaid to race against a pixie, because they were much faster, and Penny's wings were exceptionally strong for a pixie. Where other pixies had the wings of small creatures, like butterflies or dragonflies or bats, Penny had the wings of an eagle.

Penny soared through the sky, feeling free as the wind enveloping around her. As usual, she was winning the race.

But, not as usual, Penny was about to fly through the tree arch which she usually passed through on her way to her uncle's home. Instead, Penny felt herself hit a foreign object that grunted from the force of her velocity, and they were both falling from the sky.

Penny's point of view:

The boy was yelling in terror. I snapped out of my shocked state and spread my wings just before we could hit the ground, smoothly swooping us back into the air.

The forest here was way too thick to fly through, and my current speed was not helping my case at all. I dropped the boy on a patch of moss right before I crashed into a thicket.

An excruciating pain filled me as wave after wave of thorny twigs scrubbed against my face and scraped at my body and wings. At last I came to a stop, but not before a gigantic branch tore through a sector of my left wing and broke into the bone.

When I regained my voice, I cried out in pain. I rolled onto my right side and curled into fetus position, trying to find something to distract me.

I sobbed on the forest floor with thorns scratching away at my exposed skin, but it was nothing compared to the pain of my wing. Soon, I sat up and I forced my wing muscles to work and get my wing in front of me. I then yanked the branch out as fast as I could. Blood was dripping from the scratches and the speared hole of my wing.

I suddenly heard footsteps coming towards me. There was no way I could defend myself in this state.

I turned myself around and saw the same boy I saved falling to his knees with a soft thud. " Hey. My name's Talon. I'm gonna help you, okay?" The voice said, and I nodded in reply.

He carefully picked me up bridal style, and carried me to the mossy area. "Are you hurt?" He asked in concern. "Yeah. My wing's broken." I replied. "Oh. So you're a Pixie, right? What kind of wings?"

"They're eagle wings."

"Bird wings? Wow. I've never met a Pixie with bird wings! But... It's broken?"

"Unfortunately so."

"I guess we should get you to a healer, then."

He then helped me up and I started walking with him. "The nearest healer is about two miles east from here." I said, checking the compass slung around my neck.

We were silent through the journey. My wings were strong but I don't use my legs often enough to say the same. After a mile, I collapsed from exhaustion. Talon swooped me up before I could hit the ground, and proceeded to walk with me in his arms.

I sneakily studied his features to try and get my mind off the pain in my wing, and it worked a little bit. I couldn't completely identify what he was. He had the most brilliant purple irises I've ever seen, but I couldn't remember what creature had those sort of eyes.

If I could use one word to describe the way he looked, it was sharp. Sharp jawline, sharp cheekbones, sharp eyebrows and sharp eyes.

He had a funny looking hat on. A bunch of leaves matted into a hat that concealed his ears and most of his hair. The ends were strung together and left to make a pointy end coming out of the back of his head.

"What's your name?" He asked out of the blue, catching me mid-stare. "Penny." I replied shortly. "Well Penny, you just wait, because we're nearly there. Then we can get you all fixed up." He smiled.

When we reached the healer's tree house, I was handed into other arms, and I lost consciousness before I could count to three.
