Dean's pov:

We got a basketball hoop. Yep. For Sam's birthday, we hung up a basketball hoop above the garage door.

Sam was pretty excited. He was practically jumping up and down when I handed him the ball. He ran towards the hoop, jumped up and scored a goal. "Yes!" Sam pumped his fist into the air to celebrate his victory.

I was pretty impressed. "Your turn, Dean." He said and tossed me the ball. I haven't played in years, but the instincts never left me. I dribbled the ball a few times, dodged around Sam, jumped up and scored.

"Good shot!" Sam commented as I caught the ball out of the hoop. Suddenly, I heard the fluttering of wings, and Castiel appeared at the end of the driveway. "Sam, Dean." He acknowledged us with a curt nod. "Hey Cas." I replied, and threw the ball at him.

I half-expected him to catch it, but he let it bounce off his chest, looking at me with his signature confused face. "Why did you throw me?" He asked. "You're supposed to catch it, Cas. Let's try again." I picked up the ball and threw it again.

He caught the ball between his hands, looking at it with curiosity. "Good job. Now, try and throw it through that hoop." I instructed and pointed at the red ring above the garage door. The angel looked at it and went to stand underneath it, but I stopped him before he could toss the ball from the bottom of the ring.

"No, Cas, not from below. Come stand here." I gestured to the spot next to me, and Cas sheepishly shuffled over to me. "Okay. Try to throw it through the hoop." I saw Sam leaning against the wall, mentally preparing for whatever could go wrong.

I threw an invisible ball into the hoop to demonstrate to Castiel. He tossed the ball and it went straight towards Sam. He caught it and threw it back to me. "Cas, buddy, I'm going to teach you to stand right."

"Why?"

"To be able to shoot a ball into a hoop is... Essential for the, uh... requirements of a hunter." I quickly thought up a reason other than "it's cool. Do it."

I went behind Cas and put my arm against his, with the other on the small of his back. My chin was just above his shoulder, and I started to give tips and instructions on how to stand right. His pine-cone and earthy scent was becoming distracting, so I hurried my instructions.

I kept an eye on his face. His ocean blue eyes were concentrated on what I was saying to him, and every now and then he subconsciously ran his wet tongue over his dry lips.

I snapped out of my dreamy state and backed up to let him try. Castiel took careful notice of his positioning and balance. He threw the ball, and it sunk through the hoop perfectly.

"Nice!" Sam cheered, catching the ball from the hoop. "High five, Cas!" I smiled, holding up a hand. The blue eyed angel stared at my hand in confusion, and it occurred to me that he didn't know what a high five was.

He slowly reached his hand up, keeping his eyes focused on my hand. He lined his fingers against mine, and slowly separated my fingers from each other so that his could come in-between.

I decided that I was too far in to back out now, so I played along and intertwined my fingers with his. His blue eyes shifted to meet mine, and in them was an emotion I was yet to see in his eyes. A small blush crept up from my neck and tinted my cheeks red. This adorable chuckleduck...

"Uh... Cas, buddy, I hate to break it to you, but that's not a high five." I said, but I didn't remove my hand. His head tilted and he looked at me as if he was deducing my thoughts.

Before I could comprehend what was happening, Cas stepped closer until there was almost nothing between the two of us. He leaned in and planted a firm kiss on my lips, catching me by surprise to say the least.

When he parted, I ran my tongue over my lips to check if that actually just happened, or whether my mind hadn't just run wild. The sweet taste and slightly lingering scent of hazelnuts and honey was fresh on my lips, and I knew that it was real.

Without really thinking, my mouth spoke before I gave it permission. Those three little words that could either destroy a person's life, or make it whole.

"I love you."

The words slipped from my swollen lips, and I could do nothing but hope that Cas wouldn't react badly.

The angel only did an adorable side smirk in reply. "I know." He replied shortly and simply.

I looked at Sam with wide, surprised eyes, then back at Cas. "Sonofabitch just Han Solo'd me."
