Chapter 15: The Storm Before The Peace

A couple of weeks later and the ship was closing in on Shanghai, you had seen many over pirate ships such as a huge vessel belonging to a Captain Ivan Braginsky, and had even had a mutual greeting with a Taiwanese ship called The Striking Lotus and the Captain was female! A very cheerful yet strong willed woman called Mei or Xiao Mei as she said.

You were nervous about going to 'The gathering' as everyone called it, you heard that all the new members of the crew were sent into a fighting pit to either kill or have the other submit until their was one standing. You were confident you could win, and you trusted your fighting skills but you didn't know who you would be up against and that bothered you. Allistor reassured you that you would only be put into the pit once, but what if you didn't come out alive? Before you came on this ship you couldn't care less whether you lived or died because you didn't have anything to lose. But now you did.

It was midday and the crew were doing their regular routines, since you and Arthur kissed, he had let you do other jobs besides check the canons and work in the kitchens, you were in the crows nest with Matthew and you could easily understand why he liked it up here. The wind whipping around and watching the other crewmen work but they looked like tiny ants which made it all the more comical. Matthew sighed "Nothing on my side, what about yours?" "Nothing" you replied and you both slumped down back to back, he took out a flask and offered it to you, you mumbled a thanks and took a swig but instantly spat it out. "Matthew what's in their, it's so sweet?!" You gagged, "Where I come from we have this thing called Maple syrup it's really good" he said happily, a smile on his face. You patted his head, "We don't need to be up here since we're so close to Shanghai, but I don't want to upset the captain" he said and shuddered "I think your the only one you can get away with it" he said curiously, giving you a suspicious look, you laughed.

You and the captain had an unusual relationship, one unlike most lovers would have. You both loved to tease each other for example once when all the crew were cleaning the cannons he came along to your cannon and peered over you shoulder and congratulated you........ Before slapping your ass. You let out a squeak which made him chuckle but you couldn't retaliate because the rule of this game was to not let the crew find out what was going on between the two of you. Your recent endeavour on the captain, was only yesterday when you got the captain a drink and tried to seduce him, it worked like a charm but before he could grab you, you 'accidently' spilt his drink down his shirt.

You laughed at the memories, and that's when you noticed something not too far a off in the distance, you stood up "____?" Matthew asked, "Give me your spyglass" you ordered, not taking your eyes of the object, he gave you the spyglass and you pulled it out and looked through it; their was a Chinese imperial ship coming towards us. "Chinese Imperial!" You shouted down to the crew, as you and Matthew quickly scaled down the rigging, just as the captain stood on the railing "Take a look for yourself captain" you passed him the spyglass, he peered through it a confident smirk on his lips, "Well isn't this my lucky day" he said slyly, "Wouldn't it be risky to attack an imperial ship, in their own waters" Dylan asked he knew what his brother was planning.

"It's only a scout, we will be fine" he said confidently, "Ready the cannons and raise the Jolly Roger lads, were in for a fight" He cheered, as did the crew as they scurried around to their stations. Arthur went up to the wheel and you followed him, "You can't-" you said urgently "I think you'll find I can, love" he said arrogantly, one of the few things you despised about Arthur was his arrogance but their were also so many things you loved about him, his thrill for danger being one. "Won't the Chinese leader pirate whatever be mad at you?" "I could give a rats ass what Yao has to think" he said like an excited child, he then shoved you inside his cabin "Now be a good girl and stay here" he cooed, drawing out his sword, as the ship wobbled as cannonballs struck it. "I don't want you hurting yourself" he said absent mindedly, and that really pissed you off "You think I can't fight!" You half yelled at him in disbelief, after all the training you both did. "I never said that you couldn't, you did" he remarked cheekily, you ran to punch him in the face, but he closed and locked the door.

"Arthur Kirkland, you son of a bitch!" You shouted and punched the door in aggravation, you looked around the room looking for a dagger, you had one on you so if you found another one you could carefully pick the lock and escape. You could hear the roars of the men, the clash of swords and the firing on canons, making both ships rock side to side, you saw a dagger on Arthur's bed, "Oh you beauty!" You said cheerfully to yourself as you started to pick the lock. You stuck both daggers into the lock and twisted them several times before a familiar click, was heard and you burst open the door, you gagged on the scent of Blood and gunpowder. But you could see the fighting that was all taking place on the other ship.

You ran onto the deck and saw one of the enemies try and swing across to your ship, you whipped out your pistol and shot him in the chest, you grabbed the rope he swung across on and swung onto the other deck, people were fighting others left right and centre, you noticed Matthew being surrounded and without a sword, you ran towards him and saw a sword lying on the ground "Matthew!" You yelled and threw it at him, he picked it up and started fighting. A couple of enemies tried surrounding you but you shot at them until you ran out of gunpowder, then you drew out your sword and started to fight.

It had easily been and hour into the fight and the enemies kept on coming, you had gained a few minor injuries and your face was covered in dirt and blood, hair disheveled. But you didn't care. The Captain had died along time ago by Arthur's hands, now the rest of the crew were fighting to survive. You stabbed an enemy through the neck, and pulled out your sword, you turned to the upper deck to see the captain surrounded by easily fifteen odd men. You quickly reloaded your pistol and shot at two, and ran up the stairs, then you instantly went back to back with the Captain. "I thought I locked you in my cabin" he yelled over the noise, as he attacked an enemy dispatching him quickly, "You did, I escaped" you shouted back to him as you dispatched an enemy, you fought for awhile before you quickly switched sides. Getting a glance of Tommy easily dispatching enemies with his cutlass; Sheamus and Dylan fighting back to back like professionals. "You know that's disobeying a direct order" he shouted you both dispatched an enemy when you turned around your swords clashing, "Your lecturing me now?!" You said exasperated.

"I'm the captain" he said in a matter of fact way, you both drew you swords away from each other and fought enemies, you were both nearly finished dispatching each others enemies "You know disobeying orders is against pirate law" he said casually, "What of it?" You said as you turned around to fight an enemy but found yourself in Arthur's embrace and arm around your waist, your faces inches apart, "And that deserves punishment" he whispered and pointed his pistol at you, you gasped but he moved it to the side shooting an enemy that had come up behind you. You shook your head at him and he smirked, "Off the ship lads were blowing this one sky high" Arthur yelled and everyone started swinging across to our ship.

You swung across but jumped off to early and missed the deck, you screamed but something caught you "Got you sweetheart" said the smiling face of Tommy, you smiled at him and he pulled aboard, you got a couple of congratulations from the crew and a few pats on the back. After all this was your first pirate fight. Arthur stood on the railing "Ready men, aim, fire!" He shouted and the canons went off in a thunderous symphony exploding the ship to smithereens and everyone cheered as it started to sink. "Tonight we celebrate!" Arthur shouted and everyone cheered, everyone dispersed and Arthur walked up to you he opened his mouth to say something but you cut him off by taking out your dagger and scratching him across his hand, he flinched "What the bloody hell was that for?!" He hissed "That was for pointing a gun at me" you snapped back "And this" you trod on his foot "Was for locking me up" you gave him a teasing smirk, as you started to climb up the rigging "You break my heart" he called up to you. "You should learn not to play with fire then" he gave a low whistle as he watched you go. Not only did he get a nice view of your ass, but he also realised how much of a little minx you were, he was defiantly punishing you one day.

This is the tension lessening chapter :D

I honestly wanted this to be quite a comical chapter since we haven't had one in a while and I didn't want it to all get too tense.
