I was on a plane.

My parents had the last straw with me, as they had told me a week ago.  Apparently, hunting down a clan of vampires that isn't your brother's clan but grow to love your curse and agree to leave you unharmed, isn't homework. They are sending me to live with my third cousin, Sam Uley. Sam was like my older brother until we moved. Now I was going back.

I looked out the window. My mind went back to that unforgetable night. Three days after that night, I learned of my curse. I could absorb the "gifts" the red eyes had. Over the years, I made a list of my "borrowed gifts." I pulled it out and read it.

1. Soul leaves body and absorbs their gifts.

2. Psychokinesis-Using the mind to affect surrounding objects. Control.

3. Clairvoyance-Using the mind to gain information beyond the five senses. Vision.

4.Telepathy-Using the mind to read and transfer thoughts. Focus

5. Shield-Stops them from using their gifts on you and others you protect.

My eyes ran over the words over and over again. The guy next to me looked at the notebook in my hands and asked, "For a story?"

I closed the book and shoved it in my bag. I narrowed my eyes and snapped, "Please keep your eyes on your belongings."

He held up his hands. "Hey. I didn't mean any harm. I'm Jeff by the way."

I looked at his hand. He let it drop and started talking. "I'm moving to Forks with my Dad and his new family. My mom thought it would be the best thing for me cause she thought I was in a "gang." Can you believe that? Really they were just my friends and.."

He started to babble on and on. I winced and rubbed my temples. I held up a hand.

"Please stop."

He grinned. "I will for your name."

"Esmeralda."

"Beautiful," he smiled.

I blinked and looked away. Three hours later, the plane had landed. I grabbed my only bag and rushed off the plane. I heard Jeff calling from behind me. I groaned and tried to get lost in the crowd. My black hair followed my motions, as I raced through the crowd. I turned to see Sam. Taking a breath, I started to cry. I ran towards him just as Jeff reached out and grabbed my arm. Sam was there in an instant. Jeff let me go and backed away.

"No crime done man. Here. Bye Esmeralda. See you around."

We watched him leave. Sam sighed then grinned when he saw me. I hugged him as he swirled me around. He set me down and took my bag. I followed him to his truck. I slid in the seat and closed the door. Sam started to drive.

"While Esme," he laughed. "Welcome back to La Push. Your lucky it isn't the school year. Emily is really happy your coming another girl in the house besides Leah. Remember her?"

I nodded. Sam smiled approvingly.

"Ever since Emily had Luke she needs all the help she can get with the pack and all.."

"Pack?" I asked.

Sam nodded slowly. "I told you in those letters, Esme. Think you can deal with it?"

I nodded. Sam pulled up to a cabin. The forest engulfed it and hid it. My eyes took in everything with wonder. Sam smiled. A little boy ran out of the house.  Sam hugged him and picked him up. I smiled at five year old, Beck. Emily ran out and embraced me. I hugged her back. Emily ushered me to my room. It was exactly like my room back home. My clothes, everything was there. Everything but him. I took a breath. I promised myself every breath I take will be for Ember's last. His one last breath. Emily closed the door. I made sure they were downstairs when I started to cry. Tears fell like a waterfall. I sobbed. I looked around. I needed to get out. Rushing downstairs, I yanked on my coat. Sam and Emily watched me leave. Sam yelled after me. Jumping over a rock, memories of that night flashed in my mind. My soul felt on fire. I ran. Farther away until I was in a meadow. I collapsed and sobbed.

"Why him? Why?!"

I slammed my fist onto the ground. That's when it hit me. I stood and tried to ran. I fell on my side and cursed. It was coming. The gifted were near. Fire shot through my veins. I screamed and tried to fight it. But it was going to leave my body. My soul will leave and find those with the gift. It will hunt them down and "borrow" the gifts. Then I will have those powers. With one last scream, my soul left my body.

It looked down at its lifeless body.  It raced. It had a time line and hated the power. It came upon a house. It looked around. Three of them were in the house. Two with gifts. It took off. It went in the little pixie girl's body and stole. It went to her mate and stole his power too. It took off. It found two clans in the same area. Two people of the clan had a gift. It raced and took it. It saw another gift. It took it and left. Something stopped it. A human was walking on the trial. A vampire was going after it. A woman with caramel hair raced after that vampire. It watched the fight puzzled. The girl vampire screamed. It left and hurried to its body. It shot in her mouth and returned.

I shot up.  I ran. I ran to the screams. I walked to see him. Red eyes. I shrieked. A vampire raced out of the trees.  It grabbed me and pinned me to the forest floor. I looked up to see him. My brother.  Ember stared at me with his now red eyes. I started to cry. He didn't  realise it was me.

"Ember," I cried out.

Ember's face softened. "Esmeralda?"

Red eyes pulled him off me. "We have to move."

Ember looked at me. "I'll find you again."

I looked up to flames. I screamed, "No!"

I ran to the flames and tried to stop it. I felt dizzy and weak. I fell next to the fire. I let out a breath and mumbled. "I tried, Ember. I tried."

Then nothing.
