During that week, Ethan and I messaged each other a couple of times and he genuinely seemed a really nice guy and seemed interested in me. I really hoped he wouldn't turn out to be just some creep.
Friday morning I began to prepare myself for the date. I even shaved myself! I was really hoping it was worth it.
Around 8 o'clock I heard a knock on my door. I went outside, nervously, and I came across the most vibrant green eyes I had ever seen. His tanned skin was bright with a trace of red in the cheeks. Oh, he was nervous too! That was a good sign.
"Hi Chloe, it's nice to finally meet you in person. I'm Ethan, your date for tonight." he claims, smiling. Then, he gave me the most beautiful flower bouquet. How thoughtful!
At that point I was already drooling due to his gorgeous features.
'Focus Chloe, he is talking to you!'
"Wow thanks! These are gorgeous", I said showing him my best smile.
He led me to an exquisite black Porshe, the kind of car you only see in magazines. I was amazed.
As if I wasn't already extremely impressed, I was speechless when he parked his car at Sydney Harbour and started walking towards Quay, one of Sydney's best restaurants. Well, one thing I could tell for sure: this guy was very wealthy. He could probably get a girlfriend in a second. What the heck was he doing on a dating website?
Once we arrived at the restaurant, we were placed in a reserved table with an exquisite view of the Sydney Harbour. It was breath-taking. The water was so beautiful, in tones of dark blue, nothing like the one that used to set my lungs of fire during my nightmares. My mind started to wander, and...
"Chloe? Have you decided what you want to eat?"
A pair of green eyes were staring directly at me with amusement. I cleared my throat and tried to regain my composure.
"Hum, yeah, I'll start with the..." I checked the menu in a rush "confit of tomatoes" whatever that was.
"Make it two" Ethan said to the waiter.
When the waiter left, Ethan leaned towards me, as if he was telling me a secret.
"I thought that at least I knew where you were from by the information on your profile, you know" he said with delight in his eyes "Your accent, although reduced by your time in Australia, is clearly from Europe".
I froze. I was not expecting that. I worked so hard on my accent so it wouldn't be noticeable when I spoke, so I was extremely surprised when Ethan figured out I was not an Australian girl.
"I'm sorry if I am being nosy. You don't have to answer, sometimes I am a bit enthusiastic about my new discoveries" Ethan blushed proclaiming those words.
My mind worked fast, trying every plausible excuse before I was able to speak again.
"No, it's fine, really! It was a really long time ago..." I started carefully, trying to keep my face neutral "I moved to Australia when I was a little girl, so I could live with my aunt after my parents died on a fire. Hum... I'm sorry, I usually don't talk about this with other people..." I said with a sad smile.
All of a sudden Ethan seemed genuinely concerned.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything, I..." he apologized, while touching my left arm.
"It's okay, don't worry, Ethan. I barely remember them" I lied. "So, I think that's enough of sad stories!" I tried to change the subject "Tell me more about you!"
Therefore, during our date, Ethan and I talked about everything, from our favorite books to our future plans and places we dreamed to visit. I found out he played tennis professionally and was extremely good at it; he was ranked #1 worldwide!
