Chapter 12

Kaitlyn’s POV

It was Thursday morning, and I woke up before my alarm clock, which is very rare. I checked the clock; it was 5:30 in the morning. I decided to get up so I would have time to eat breakfast this morning. I took my shower and threw on a loose, white shirt and ripped skinny jeans.

After I was finished with my hair and makeup, I sat down and had a bowl of cereal. By the time I was finished, I needed to leave for the bus. I grabbed my things, slipped on my shoes and left. Only one more month of the bus if I pass my driving test, I thought to myself.

I sat on the bus alone, as usual. I was so excited to see Harry. But all I could think about was Maria. Knowing her, she’d probably be able to take Harry back in a heartbeat. I cringed at the thought. Harry still likes her. At least I think he does…

It was lunch. Today wasn’t too great of a day because Kaycie wasn’t at school, and I haven’t seen Harry yet.

As I walked in the lunchroom, I looked at my table, and Harry’s table. Spencer was sitting at our table, but Harry was nowhere in sight. I decided that this would be good time to talk to Spencer.

I took a deep breath and walked over to him.

“Spencer, can you come with me for a second?”

He looked bewildered, but managed to say, “Okay, yeah. Sure.”

I placed my bag on my seat and guided him to a somewhat empty hallway.

“So…” he said, awkwardly breaking the ice.

“The um…Friday night…” I tried to say.

Guilt seemed to wash over his face and he desperately spoke, “Kaitlyn I’m so sorry. I didn’t know what I was doing. I was drunk, I liked you and you were…you know.” I nodded shamefully, confirming that I knew what he was talking about.

“I really hope that mistake didn’t ruin our friendship. I’m so, so sorry” he pleaded.

“It didn’t. Just please, don’t do it again.”

“I won’t. I can promise you that. So, are we good?”

I smiled and answered, “Yes, we’re good.”

He grew a wide smile and leaned in for a hug, but he quickly stopped himself. “Is it too soon for a hug” he cautiously asked.

I laughed at his question and pulled him in for a hug. He seemed to relax in my arms, but I pulled away. “Come on Spencer!” I tugged him towards the cafeteria entrance.

“So, you and Harry?”

I was a little surprised at his question, but he did hear all of the lunch conversations about Harry and Niall.

“I’m not sure. He just broke up with Maria, and I don’t know if I’m just a rebound or he actually likes me” I explained.

“Well if he’s just using you, I’ll have Joey kick his ass” he said with a serious expression on his face.

I looked at him and we both busted out in laughter as we walked through the door, and to our seats.

As we got to our table, I saw Harry. He was sitting in Kaycie’s seat, right next to me. He looked up at me, then at Spencer. His jaw tensed, and his eyes narrowed at Spencer. He looked furious.

“Do you want to sit at your table?” I silently asked Harry, desperately trying to avoid any confrontation between the two.

“No.”
