For one moment there is silence but the policeman comes back. "Miss? Do you have a telephone number of his family?" "No. He never talked about them or gave me a number." Kelly turns to Tori where Shane, Blake and Hunter stand now. "Do you have a number?" Everyone shackes their heads, no. "No. We don't even know where he lives," Shane states. The policeman sighs. "Okay. But can we have a number? Then we can inform you how his condition is." "Yes of course," Shane says immediately. He gives the policeman his number and then the policeman goes away.
"Wow. That is unbelievable." Shane and the others get back to the headquarters and tell sensei and Cam about the situation. "Do you have any information about Dustins condition?" sensei asks. "No, not now. But I get a call from the hospital when they find anything," Shane answers with a sad tone. "I think it is the best for everyone when you go home and rest. This day was very exciting for you all." Everyone nods at the comment from their sensei.
"I can't believe this. This was his first race since we are the ninjas of the town. And now Dustin is in the hospital? That can't be real." Shane sits in his room and thinks about the day. His parents are at work and his older brother lives on his own.
Normally Shane likes the silence but now it is killing him. So to distract himself he turns the TV on. ^Today we report from the racetrack in Blue Bay Harbor.^ The News lady says. Shane groans. ^There was a race today but one off the riders lost control of his bike and got of the racetrack into the fit forest. The people here have a shock because something like that normally doesn't happen here. Everyone checks their bikes before a race.
The police don't give us much information but we know that the young man is now in the hospital and definitely not in a good condition.^ Shane stares at the TV screen and listens to the report. ^We will inform you when we know more. Back to the studio.^ With that Shane turns the TV off. "I can't get away from this, can I?" he asks himself. It is only 4:37 p.m.. Shane's parents won't come back before 8 p.m.. So Shane grabs his skateboard and walks to the halfpipe. His mobile phone always in his pocket. After ten minutes of walking Shane arrives at the skatepark and starts to skate. A bit free style, a bit on the halfpipe but he always looks at his phone. "Man. When will they call?" he thought and right then his phone rings. From the sudden noise he nearly drops the phone but he settles himself in time. "Hello?" he asks as he picks up the call. *Mr Clarke? This is the hospital. We have some information about Dustin Brooks.* "Really? Okay, I'm coming. I will be there in twenty minutes." *Okay. Just tell the secretary you need to visit your friend. She will tell you.* "Okay. Thanks." Shane hangs up and starts running to the hospital. While running he contacts the others and tells them to wait for him to report again.
Because of the running he gets to the hospital in less than twenty minutes. "Where is Dustin Brooks?" he asks the secretary as he enters the hospital. "I can't tell you. He is in no condition for visitors." "Listen. The woman who called me said that I can get the room from you." "Oh, so you are the contact person. Okay, just wait a second." The secretary tapes something on the keyboard of the computer. "Ah. There. Right now he is in surgery. But if you go the stairs two levels down, turn left and then take the third door right. There is a waiting area where you can sit. Dr. Prie will come as soon as the surgery is done." "Okay. Thank you." Shane takes off directly. He is very worried about his friend. And the worst part is that no one knows where his parents are or how to contact them. That makes Shane even more concerned.
One and a half hour. "Why does it take so long?" Shane doesn't even think of going home. He wants to know what is wrong with Dustin. After another half hour a doctor finally comes out of the surgery room and makes Shane jump. "Mr. Clarke, right?" "Yes, that's me." The doctor reaches out her hand and Shane takes it. "It is really nice that you are there for your friend. Before we talk about him, do you know something about his parents?" Shane shakes his head, no. "Sorry. Dustin never talks about his personal life. We don't know much about his family." "Oh, that is sad. Anyway then I will talk to you instead of his parents." Shane only nods. The doctor gives him a weak smile and points with her hand to the chairs. "Please take a seat. So we can talk better." They sit down and the doctor starts to talk. "So. What we know is that Dustin got of the racetrack and crashed into a nearby tree. He broke two of his right ribs and got an internal bleeding from this. He also broke his right arm and dislocated his shoulder which we located again. His left ankle is sprained and the leg is broken because the bike landed on it." She stops her monologue and looks at Shane who has wide eyes. "Wow. That is much." "Yes, but he is fine now. He is still asleep from the medicine and he will get a private room. You may also get some rest, I mean it was a hard day for you, too." Dr. Prie gives him a small smile before she stands up and goes to her next patient. Shane sits for a few more minutes before he gets up and takes the advice from Dr. Prie.
"Where were you?" At home Shane's parents are waiting for him in the living room. "Sorry. I was at the hospital." His mother, Gabrielle, gives him a very worried look. "Are you okay?" she asks. "Yeah I am fine. It is Dustin. He had an accident today during his race. No one can contact his family so I gave my number to the policeman to contact me. The hospital called me before an hour." Shane told his parents. They are shocked. They know Dustin pretty well and treat him like a son. "How is he now?" Shane's father, Daniel, asks. Shane looks up at him and sighs. "He is out of surgery and still asleep from the medicine. Please, I want to get some sleep myself if it is okay." He answers and walks upstairs to his room. He changes into his sleep pants and goes to bed with one last thought. "I hope Dustin gets better soon."
