Chapter 1
Massacre, that was the only word to describe that terrible incident that transpired in a place I used to call home. The war started ages ago when alchemy was discovered, they fought over the Brilliant Minds(B.M) that were spread over the globe, to be enslaved and forced to research the mystical art called alchemy, this war became a blank in history, erased by those that hold power over the world, the live that were taken in that war were countless, in the moment the war ended, alchemy was forgotten, or should it be the other way around? However, during the battle itself it was known as "The Alchemic War"...
I was one of the so called "Brilliant Minds" that soldiers were fighting over. This lead to the destruction of my home and my capture. I was taken to a castle in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but trees everywhere. At the time, the intense shock of my family members made me lose consciousness of my surroundings, so I didn't think much about it at the time. I just did as they commanded of me, my hatred boiled every time I listened to them, the killers of my mother and my younger brother. However, what pained me even more was the fact that I was petrified by them, all I wanted to do was kill myself, but my fear stopped me, my fear of the monster we call death. Working for the killers of those whom I held dear and not being able to do anything because of my own weakness, the worst emotion I have ever felt.
As time passed by, I grew accustomed to the life that fate had brought upon me, it was a painful existence but somehow bearable. The hours of research every single day, testing and studying how to conduct alchemy, the poor condition of their facilities ( the bedrooms, the filthy toilets and the cafeteria half-buried by the litter). It was not the BEST place in the world but at the very least, I had friends who understand and share the same suffering I had gone through, they also had the intelligence that were on equal terms with mine. In my former home, I had always been above those that were around me, It was refreshing to have company that I could talk with and to call them my equals. There was one of them that I trusted among the rest, a man around the same age as me, Alan, he was what kept everyone sane. But as soon as I started to feel happy again, THEY took it all away from me...
Research of alchemy was moving far slower than what they had expected, they though it was because we grew too rebellious and that we lost our fear of them. So they decided that at the end of the week, If there was not an increase in our progress of what we did, they would execute one of us and just for their entertainment, they wanted to watch us fall into the pit of despair, they had us do an anonymous voting to decide who would go first. The mental strain on us was enough to drive us into insanity. At first, we rebelled by leaving our votes blank, but it was in vain as they decided if we didn't make a decision, they would kill my friend Alan. They decided his death, not because of him being the most important person in the group but for an extremely ridiculous reason, because his name started with the letter A. The voting was then resumed, this time someone was decided. Even though almost all of them were blank, there was a sheet that had Alan's name on it. So it was decided that he was to be executed. What they asked of us was impossible, there was no way for us to double the speed of our progress. As I watched my friend about to be murdered before my eyes, the overwhelming rage I felt burned hotter than a thousand suns, but I had to show restraint because I knew; Iif I did anything they would slaughter us all. At the time of his end, what I saw was not a man faced it with despair or sadness in his heart, what I saw was a man with a smile on his face prepared to die. After his death, I was determined to find his killer, the man who wrote his name on the sheet, I found a man that told me the truth...
The person who wrote Alan's name on the sheet was someone I least expected, it was non other than himself. In that moment I realised why my friend was prepared to die and why he smiled at the end of it all, because he chose his own death and he didn't want anyone else to die because of him, so that was why he voted for himself. The despair I felt was incomparable to anything I have ever felt before, the tears would not not stop overflowing from my eyes, the heartache was unbearable.
I then learned that alchemy could be used to revive the souls that have left this world, so I began to bury myself in my research, it was as if fate had wanted me to find the secrets of alchemy. After long years of research, I managed to escape the prison I had been kept in for so long.
