The Black Veil

She hides a face of admiration

Behind a face of hate

Many acts of desperation

Pushed out by acts of fate

In darkness where her solitude lay

In light, her heart will break

She sits still and dares to pray

What might be a stake?

An empty home

Filled with silence

And a lone

Heart of violence

Shutting out the cold appliance

In which her dearest friend would lay

The black veil

Yes, it beckons all

To walk to hail

And never fall

To walk on water

and remain dry

To feel the slaughter

of the devil's eye

This is all it asks of you:

Don't ever be afraid

The sun comes up eventually

And sorrows are left unpaid
