“Close your eyes, no peeking” he said, I could hear the smile in his voice. He slowly grabbed my hand leading me away from the comforts of my room. He led me outside, into the chilly night air. I could smell the scent of freshly cut grass and lavender. All of a sudden he let go of my hand leaving me standing there. I started panicking, where has he gone, is he just going to leave me here.
“Calm down, there’s nothing to worry about I’m right here” he spoke softly, right next to my ear. The very sound of his voice rising goose bumps on the back of my neck. I sighed in relief, and he silently chuckled.
He gently put his hands over my eyes; I could feel the small sparks from his skin touching mine. “I hope you haven’t been peeking”
I couldn’t keep the smile off my face as I slowly shook my head.
“Now I want you to tell me what you can smell” he asked softly, his mouth getting closer to my ear with every word. I gulped and breathed in a big lungful of air, but this time it wasn’t the freshly cut grass and lavender. No it wasn’t, it was the smell of death and decay. I held back a gag as I struggled to cover my nose, but he had grabbed my arms holding them behind my back. I tried to open my eyes but they wouldn’t open, it’s like someone had glued them shut. I whimpered. I tried to run away but he had a tight hold me. I tried to scream but nothing came out. I could feel the tears falling down my face as I felt helpless and vulnerable.
“What’s wrong babe, don’t want to spend time with me anymore” he laughed a menacing, evil laugh.
I silently sobbed as I wished that this torture would be over soon.
I woke to the sound of my own scream, my eyes puffy and sore from all the crying. I looked around my room panic clearly showing on my face, as soon as I realized it was a dream I broke down into sobs. I was crying for two reasons 1. He wasn’t real and he couldn’t hurt me, 2. He wasn’t real, the way he makes me feel the way he spoke to me in a hushed voice. The way he makes me feel alive. That’s probably the worst part of these dreams that fact that he isn’t real, I have been having these dreams since I was 13 I’m now 17. The dreams are never exactly the same but they always end in the same way and I never learn I always follow him, hoping that maybe he might magically change. I have never seen his face either, I could just open my eyes and have a peek at him but I never want to upset him, its like in that moment all I want to do is make him happy.
I slowly rise out of my bed after I had calmed down; I walk over to my bathroom. My hair was a mess on top of my head and the dark circles under my eyes are nothing new, I haven’t had a good night sleep since before these dreams started. I groaned turned on my shower and hoped in. The warm water soothing my tense muscles, and washing away any evidence that I had just finished crying. I quickly washed my hair and hoped out of the shower grabbing a towel and walking back to my room. I pulled on some black skinny jeans, my white school blouse and my black stiletto heals. I dried my hair and curled it in soft ringlets and applied a light layer of makeup. I studied my self in the mirror, my dark brown naturally straight hair already starting to straighten. My black eye liner making my hazel eyes look more green then hazel, and my heals making me look tall and thin. I smiled at my appearance then walked down stairs bumping into Jessica crying her eyes out on the floor. I picked her up in my arms and leaned her on my hip, softly bouncing her up and down to stop her from crying. Her curly blonde hair a messy pile on top of her head and her blue eyes staring at me intently. She smiled her little dimple smile and hugged me.
Even though she is 4 years old she can’t speak, know body knows why she just never learnt. She understands what we are saying but she just doesn’t say anything.
“ALEXIS!” Jimmy screamed, running away from the rest of the kids. He ran behind me and hid, even though they had all see him run there. Jimmy was a small little boy with black hair and green eyes, he usually just kept to himself reading a book or playing on the computer. So when you see all these kids chasing him you would think that something is up.
“What’s going on here?” I said with authority, Jake the troublemaker walked forwards. He looked as if he had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. I smirked waiting for his answer, but he never said anything. I looked at him expectantly.
“I-I um w-we w-were just playing” he stuttered, looking at his feet. I looked at Jimmy, he just shook his head.
“They were going to throw me into the mud” he sniffled, not looking Jake in the eyes. Jake scoffed, “Were not” I glared at him, he looked down. “Ok we were but it was just a joke”
“You’re grounded, for a week” I stated “All of you” I said looking at the rest of the kids, “You have to learn to be nicer to each other” Jake just huffed and walked off, with the rest of the kids in toe.
“Happy Birthday” I heard Jimmy say quietly from behind me. I smiled.
“Thanx buddy” I said messing his hair up, he didn’t mind though he doesn’t car about his hair. Jessica started bouncing in my arms pointing to her self then to me. “Thanx Jess” I smiled at her and made a face, she erupted in to fits of laughter.
“Come on Jimmy time for school” I said all cheerful, but in fact school was not a cheerful place for the St Joseph Orphanage children. I could hear Jimmy groaning next to me.
