Remembering

In the darkness of the disco
And the flash of strobe lights
In the thrall of alcohol
And the thrill of the night
In the arms of another guy
And the taste of his lips
In the city of danger
And the rotation of his hips

I was supposed to forget you
And put you out of my mind
It worked for awhile
But now I'm out of time
The alcohol has worn off
The rush is all gone
I'm left with marks on my neck
Still wondering how we went wrong

I had so much fun going out that night
I had so much fun without you in sight
I had so much fun forgetting you exist
I had so much fun getting lost in his kiss

But now it's a memory
And he wasn't the one
Not enough to distract me
And keep me from coming undone
I'm back to the real world
Back in my place
I'm back to missing you
Back to missing your face

I saw you this afternoon
And I wanted to hide
I put on a smile
And still went outside
I wondered if you would notice
I wondered if you would care
If someone pointed out
What couldn't be covered by my hair

I decided probably not
And went about my day
I decided I shouldn't be bothered
About what you don't ever say
I still don't know what happened
What made you change your mind
I still don't know why I care
When you're anything but kind

Maybe I enjoy the pain
Maybe I enjoy the hurt
But maybe one day I'll move on
And you'll still be here in this dirt
Maybe you'll find someone to love
Maybe I will too
I hope you'll remember me
Because I'll remember you.
