Thank you for reading The Rogue.
I know this one is shorter compared to the previous chapters. But I hope you'll like it.
I will update as soon as I can, I promise.

We were running in the forest with no idea where to go. All we know is that we need to get away from here fast. It doesn't matter where as long as it's far from here. I glanced around, nobody's following us. Maybe we lost them. We continued running along a narrow path and didn't dare stop.
That's odd, why did the forest suddenly became noiseless. The forest is never quiet.
I stopped on my tracks, pulled the other person beside me and listened carefully. Then I heard a twig snap right behind us. They must have scared off the animals. Slowly, I turned to face our pursuers. There they are, standing a few feet away from us with their chin up high. It's as if what they were doing was something worth bragging about. The smile on their faces grew wider. Before we had the chance to run, they were already launching at us.
I woke up startled, breathing heavily. I had that dream again. Thankfully this time I wasn't thrashing and shouting. I've been having dreaming that same dream ever since I woke up in the forest 9 years ago. I know they're connected to my past, but I can't seem to figure out how. I obviously didn't recognize the man in the dream. And I was too young to be the other person escaping with him.
Instead of mulling over the nightmare I just had, I got up from my bed. No use thinking over it too much. I've had 9 years to think it through and I haven't got a single clue yet. So I decided to take a cold shower hoping it will improve things, and maybe ease some of my tensed muscles.
Feeling the cold water on my skin, it somehow had an adverse effect. It gave me more time to think about me, about everything. I stay in this amazing stunning house with these warm, compassionate people, and the price of admission was lying to the only people who were kind enough not to kill me on first glance. Sure, I was welcome here, but can I risk my life at the same time their lives just so I could and pretend to live a happy normal life for once? I mean, why should I stay any longer?
I went through the closet— my closet— looking for something to wear. Most of the clothes here were given to me by Victoria. They were too fancy for my taste. Not that I wasn't grateful for her gesture, it's just that I was used to wearing simple clothes given I only had a few clothes back at home. Eventually, I managed to dig up a simple skirt and a blouse that would resemble something I’d actually wear.
I was starving, so I decided to go downstairs and rummage through the fridge and look for something edible to eat. There were all kinds of food you can find in a supermarket here, I tell ya. Their refrigerator is damn huge. After going through piles of food, I finally found what I was looking for, an apple. Yum. Mason came into the kitchen a minute after me.
Time flies so fast. I can't believe I have been here two weeks now. I didn't plan on staying long but they insisted. They said it was too dangerous for an underage girl like me living alone. I didn't warm up immediately to the idea as they had but I played along for a few days. But then, something I never expected happened, something I never would have thought to ever cross my mind.
Before I knew it, I already fell in love with the place. The green forest that stretches to God knows where, the singing of the streams winding their way around, the lake's glistening water, the whispering of the leaves as the wind passes through, and most of all, I fell in love with the people living here.
