Love and words

Chapter 4

After school Michael and Christina met in the canteen for a quick snack before their debating club meeting.

"So how's Selena?" asked Christina as they walked into the club room.

"Oh come on Chris," said Michael, "lay of me will ya?"

"Haha," said Christina, "well since Leo transferred last week, do you think that they will hold voting for a new treasurer?" 

"Yea I think they will, with the Pennsylvanian debating contest coming up, we have to have a 'A' team ready," said Michael, "Who do you think will get it?" 

"Well I think that you might get it," said Christina.

"Be serious Chris," said Michael, "I'm a first year, they'll probably pick one of the seniors."

"And drop the one who won the junior district contest by a one man show?" said Christina, " nah they wouldn't let the question of seniority stop them from picking up the best first year and probably the best debater this school has ever seen as treasurer.

"We'll see, we'll see," said Michael as they reached and entered the debating club room.

As Michael and Christina sat down while waiting  for the rest of the club they noticed Ms. Bailey, the English teacher and also the teacher in charge of debating eyeing Michael suspiciosly out of the corner of her eye and with a smile on her face.

After a while, to Michael's intense surprise, Selena came through the door and sat on the other side of Michael.

"Hey," said Michael, while Christina gave a sly smile at him.

"Hey," said Selena.

"I didn't know that you were into debating," said Michael.

"Well the thing is i'm not a field or physical type person, so I thought i'll try something like debating," said Selena, " and anyway, I was looking forward to see a friendly face like yours," the last statement earning a fainting act from Christina.

"That's cool," said Michael, "but you're probably not gonna see any debating today. We'll be voting for a new treasurer for the club and also making preparations for next week's district tournament."

"Oh, okay," said Selena, "that's fine."

"Sorry i didn't introduce you to Christina," said Michael, "Christina, Selena, Selena this is Christina, my best friend and also the one who completes what most in our grade call..."

"The three musketeers," said Selena, "ya I've heard of you."

"Dang Chris are we famous?" asked Michael.

"Settle down, settle down," said Ms.Bailey, seeing that everyone had arrived, "we have to appoint a new treasurer today cause Leo transferred, can the president start the voting process?"

"Yes ma'am," said Timothy, rolling his eyes at his teacher's professionalism, "any nominations?"

Christina's hand shot up.

"Christina?" asked Timothy.

"I nominate Michael," she said.

Timothy nodded, "any seconds?"

Peter's hand shot up, "I second it."

"Any objections?" asked Timothy.

No hands went up.

"Well then Michael, would you please come up here?" asked Timothy.

Michael went up.

"Michael Cook with the power vested in me, as the president of the Johnstown high debating club, I appointed you as the treasurer until the 31st of December this year."
