Part IV. Take Me Back
2 Months Later...
KALE
"She did what?!"
I shrugged. "She rejected me. No big deal."
It actually was.
"Dude! No big deal?! She led you on then threw you away like you were nothing! And that's okay?! Are you crazy or what?!" Samantha yelled, which made me give her a look of irritation. Thank God I had headphones on.
"Of course it's not. But it's useless dwelling over something in the past. Sam, it's been more than a month. I should've given up on her the night we were supposed to go out on a date anyway." I closed my eyes, leaning back on my chair while stretching my arms. "It's still partly my fault."
"Oh yeah, I nearly forgot." Sam crossed her arms and glared at me in a somewhat furious manner. "Why didn't you tell me earlier? For Pete's sake, Kale! You wouldn't even have told me if I didn't force it out of your stubborn self!"
I rolled my eyes. Was it really such a big deal? I got my heart broken, it's nothing important, really....Right?
"Calm down, Sam. I was the one who got rejected, not you. Plus, she did say she likes me, this is enough punishment for her."
Maybe.
"Duh? Kale, you're my brother. I care about you. It's only natural that I'm overprotective when it comes to you. And to think that your first love had to end this way..." Sam shook her head. "This is even worse than mine. But hey, at least mine fought for me till his family sealed him away. Lol," She let out a hollow laugh, and I granted her a small smile.
"Well... Maybe she just didn't think I was worth it." I stared blankly at the ceiling, smiling sadly. I can't really hide my emotions from my sister, ha, she can read me too well. It's useless.
"Eh, stop moping around. Let's just go to the mall and eat, yeah?"
I shrugged. "Sure." At least it'll take my mind off things.
I stood up, swinging my arm over her shoulders with a grin. "Which mall, Princess?"
With a huff, she answered. "Oh shut up, you big buffoon. Just the one near the subdivision." She shook her head. "I don't want to go somewhere far. I'm feeling kinda lazy today." She said with a cute pout on her face.
I chuckled, pinching her cheeks. Hard.
"Ow! Stop it! Kale!" She whined, trying to push me away from her, with no success. I would have done for about a minute or so, but the sound of the door bell made us push each other away in surprise.
"Huh? Who might that be? We don't have guests today..."
I ruffled her hair. "Maybe it's Hunter or who knows, maybe big bro's girlfriend. Either way, let's go." I didn't wait for her reply and strode over to the door and opened it.
"Hello, who m..." My eyes widened, and I nearly closed the door in her face, but I didn't. I managed to control myself and hold back, with much difficulty.
I gritted my teeth, keeping my gaze on the ground. "What do you want... Jewel?"
_________
"I-I... I.. Can I talk to you?" Jewel murmured, looking up at Kale through her eyelashes. Kale's eyebrow twitched and he sighed. What could she possibly want this time? Wanting to talk to him... He honestly didn't want to hear anything from her, at least not right now, but he didn't want to be impolite. Yes--even when she got rid of him so bluntly.
