On hosting We Day, using social media for good, and being a role model

The heart wants what it wants, and Selena's heart wants to change the world. In case you've ever wondered, Selena Gomez is just as charming, kind, smart, and friendly in real life as she is on stage. It's only natural she'd channel her talents into making a difference, like hosting We Day! If there's one thing the world should know about Selena, it's her passion for helping children. During our backstage chat, we found out exactly how she's taking action to make the world better for kids, and we became truly hooked on her enthusiasm.

What's your absolute FAVORITE part of hosting We Day?

I love talking about things that matter, that make me feel good—just using my voice for something good, you know? I look at my life and how much these kids are doing for the world and it inspires me.

What's a cause that's really close to your heart?

I think children have always been really close to my heart. They're also the ones who have allowed me to live out my dreams. So, I respect that title of being a role model and it's nice to be that for them.

Why do you think it's important to use your platform to give back?

Because! What other purpose? To me this is my job. I love what I do. I'm so passionate about using my voice and having a stance on something I care about. I have all these followers on social media, but that doesn't mean anything if I'm not talking about something of quality.

If you could give your sixteen-year-old self some advice, what would it be?

Oh gosh, be kinder to myself! I think I'm still learning that lesson. You're the sole person that has to love on yourself. Nobody is going to complete you. You have to complete yourself.
