Home Alone- Thursday
It was Thursday morning and my alarm had just woke me up, it flashed 6:30am as it blared the latest Katy Perry song throughout my room. I slowly pulled myself out of my bed and shoved on my fluffy pink slippers that my grandma had gotten me last summer. I looked in the mirror grabbing my makeup as I pulled my sandy blonde hair into a messy bun. As I was putting on the last of my mascara my mum called: “Grace! You’re going to miss the bus at this rate, it comes in ten minutes!”
“Alright I’ll be down in 5 minutes!” I shouted down the stairs as I pulled my uniform over my head and shoved my shoes on. I took one last look in the mirror and ran down the stairs.
I kissed my mum goodbye after I had eaten my toast. I grabbed my school bag and hurried out the door. As I walked along the familiar streets of my neighbourhood I couldn’t help notice the eerie feeling like I was being watched. I took a quick glance behind me as I quickened my pace to a jog. I got to the bus stop right on time as the old blue bus rattled to a stop in front of me. As I walked down towards the back of the bus I searched for my friend Jess, I looked for the familiar dark brown hair and bright blue eyes and stopped when I spotted her waving frantically to get my attention, a wild smile on her pale face. We were complete opposites, I had blonde hair she had brown, I had brown eyes she had blue, while she was the loud one in class I was always the quiet one.
“Hey, how was your afternoon?” asked Jess.
“It was alright nothing exciting what about you? I answered.
“Well, you’ll never guess who called me last night Jake! Oh my god! He was talking about…”
Although Jess was my best friend she happened to go overboard sometimes with her stories.
“That’s great!” I stated bored with her endless story.
As we walked into the big metal gates of our school, the bell rang and we hugged each other goodbye, I headed off towards my first class, maths, ughh this was going to be a long day.

It was last period and by then everyone was getting restless and Mr Fuller was struggling to control the class. He was going on about our school certificate next month, year ten was hard. The bell rang and I headed off to meet Jess at the bustop.
I looked out the window while Jess talked about her day at school. The clouds were beginning to grey and small drops of rain were falling onto the bus window.
“This is my stop, I’ll see you tomorrow” I said as I swung my bag over my shoulder.
I covered my head with my arms to protect myself from the buckets of rain pelting down towards me. Every time I took a step the puddles of water splashed up my legs, it was quite misty and hard to see anywhere further than five metres away. Suddenly I heard the splash of footsteps behind me but when I turned all I could see was mist and the trees blowing in the wind. I still couldn’t ignore the feeling I had this morning like I was being watched.
As I pulled my key out of my pocket to open the front door the wind howled in my ears. I was soaking wet from my 15 minute walk home in the rain. “Mum, I’m home” I shouted
“Hey darling, how was your day?” asked mum
“It was good” I answered.
“ That’s great, your father and I have been invited to go to the art exhibition tomorrow, so you’re going to have to be home by yourself until Sunday night, you can have a friend over if you want, is that ok?” My mum asked
“That’s fine, I’ll invite Jess” I replied.
“Just remember. Don’t open the door to anyone” She warned.
That night as I lay in bed, I began to wonder if that feeling that I was being watched was real but I shook off the feeling and drifted into a deep sleep
