I slowly opened my eyes, but regretted it rather quickly. The light hurt my eyes. I felt my head pounding like a hammer, which made me groan.
After what felt like twenty minutes, I managed to get myself to sit up and look around. I was in a room that reminded me of an abandoned laboratory, just noticing that I was sitting on a metal table. It was pretty dark, with no windows and the only light was a light fixture that was hanging right above me. Other than that, I could barely see anything.
A familiar, deep voice spoke from behind me, "I see that you're awake," which caused me to jump and turn around, immediately regretting that because it made my already-sore head spin crazily. I closed my eyes and rubbed my head hoping to get rid of the pain.
"Why am I here?"
"You should already know why, Jessica," the deep voice replied in a creepy manner. I could tell by the sound of his voice that he was closer than before, which got me to open my eyes to see a tall, muscular shadow-like figure in front of me.
"I don't know, so just tell me, you dumbnut!" That earned me a slap across the face.
The man grabbed a firm grip on my jaw and yanked so that I was looking into pitch black eyes. "You will learn to respect your elders," he snarled in my face.
I glared at him. "I respect those who respect me, jerk." Another slap and yanking of my face.
"What was that?" he was daring me to repeat myself.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't know that you were deaf too." I paused a moment. "Oops. Here, maybe I can spell it out for you. F as in Frank. U as in ugly. C as in cucumber. K as in kill. You as in, well, you." I finished, rather proud of my comeback.
He glared at me and managed to pick me up by a grip of one of his hands on my collar and threw me against the wall, which I found out rather quickly is made of stone. I crumbled down to the floor, propping myself up with one forearm. I had my forehead on my clenched fist.
"You will learn respect," he spat at me, emphasizing the word "will".
"Never."
Next thing I know, a kick came straight to my face, causing my head to whack the wall. For the second time, I welcomed the darkness instantly.
~~~
I jolt up, screaming. "Hey! Jess! Wake up!" I look over to see Luann shaking me, a look of concern plastered all over her face. I slowly nodded.
"It was just a dream," I mumbled, mostly to reassure myself rather than Lu. It just seemed too real. I shook my head to get rid of the memories, failing miserably.
"Sure didn't seem like it to me." Luann was still looking at me. "Want to tell me what happened?" I shook my head again. "You sure?" I nodded. "Positive?" I nodded again.
~~~
All day I have been so out of it. That dream was so real. A bit too real in fact. I don't get it. How can a dream like that be so real? It just doesn't make sense. Another thing I wondered was why I had that dream. I have never seen someone with the same features as the male in my dream, with his pale skin, black eyes and black greasy hair.
I shivered as I thought about him.
"Jessica, come back to earth." Luann was waving her hand in front of my face for the third time today.
I shook my head and looked at her, "Huh?"
She rolled her eyes. "Y'know that we are supposed to go to the party tonight right?"
I raised my eyebrow at her, "What party?"
"Bennett's. Remember?" she replied in a "duh" tone.
"Oh. Alright. When is it again?"
"When it usually is, Smart One," she paused a moment, "you sure you didn't hit your head or anything?"
I nodded. I only hit my head in the dream.
Before I knew it, the bell rang for lunch ending, and Luann was dragging me off to the hallway. "You alright there JJ?" I nodded, which earned me a glare from her. "You should know by now that I can tell when you're lying. Now tell me what is wrong before I have to tickle it out of you."
"You wouldn't."
"Try me."
I stopped walking and looked at her and she turned around and put her hands in her hips with her mouth slightly pursed and her eyes glaring at me. I took a deep breath and mumbled, "Imfinetheresnothingwrong!" I spun around and started to run away from my best friend, knowing full-well that I would be doomed if I slowed down.
I turned right down a corridor and saw the entrance doors. I smirked to myself, knowing that Luann would never leave school because she was too much of a good child.
I pushed myself to run faster at the doors. I burst through the doors and turned around to see a pissed off Lu. I knew that by the end of the day she would calm down, so I waved and turned and sauntered off.
~~~
I walked down the sidewalk heading to the park that I always go to when I need to think. The dream was still bothering me. A lot.
I sat on a swing and pushed the wood chips around with my feet and sighed. I don't know why that stupid dream has been bothering me as much as it is. It was just a dream.
Something quickly covered my eyes, making me scream bloody murder, having the idiot rolling on the ground laughing. "Goddamnit Jonathan! You're an idiot!" I paused a moment. "Why aren't you in school?"
"I could ask you the same thing," he was still chuckling.
I shrugged. "You're the one that's supposed to be the good child in the family."
He got up and stood in front of me, looking me dead in the eyes. "Expect the unexpected. Always. No matter what," he said in an overly serious tone, which made me feel unsettled.
"Is there something that you have to tell me?" He might know what that dream was about.
"Yes." His serious facial features quickly changed as he said: "you're an idiot." I rolled my eyes. "But seriously though. Always watch your back and never trust people who are close to you, but keep your friends close and your enemies closer." He walked away after putting his hood up on his grey hoodie. I watched him leave, more confused than ever now.
I have a feeling something interesting was going to happen.
