Lily was a woman who lived in the city of Chicago, Illinois. She had a normal life, a job, and an apartment to herself. It was normal until October 24th, 1995 - the release date of The Smashing Pumpkins' double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
Lily had been thrilled to hear the album. She was at the music store, waiting for their opening so she could grab the album and leave. She'd planned to listen to it at home. That she did.
Once Lily got home, she popped the album in the CD player. The intro piano riff satisfied her ears. She couldn't wait to see what the album beheld.
Lily was just finishing the song 'Beautiful' which meant that she'd completed twenty-five of twenty-eight songs on the double album.
The following song came on. Lily had heard her name in the song, and wanted to make sure she was hearing correctly. She looked at the lyrics that came with the album.
The song was titled 'Lily (My One and Only)' which made her feel special for some reason.
"Surely the song can't be about me. There's too many women named Lily in the world. Though I live in the same city as Billy Corgan, he'd never write about me." she thought.
Lily suspected nothing at first, but she would be baffled to find the truth.
