As Blackjack flew over the city, I looked around. Luckily, most of the buildings were still standing. Some had collapsed and others were on fire. It was still raining, so most of the smaller fires were shrinking.

We landed on the street outside my parents' apartment building. It was fine, but there would probably be some major water damage on the first five floors. I guess it's a good thing Mom and Paul live on the sixth floor.

"Oh, thank the Gods!" I said to no one in particular. I took a deep breath, not realizing until then that I had been holding it. I sprinted into the building and took the stairs three steps at a time.

When I made it to the apartment, I found the door open a smidge. Oh no, I think. I reached into my pocket for my pen and I uncap it. Then I opened the door all the way and flipped the light switch. The lights didn't turn on and I realized that the storm taken out the power. As I made my way through the rooms, I realize that the apartment is empty. There was no sign of Paul or Mom anywhere. I recapped the pen and walked out into the hallway. I went to all of our neighbors' apartment and knocked on their doors. I was hoping maybe, just maybe, they would know where they went. There was only one problem. Nobody was opening their doors. I sighed in defeat and started to make my way back to my parents' apartment. Maybe I could find something that would tell me where they went.

I had just walked in, when I heard voices coming from the stairs that went up to the roof. I take out my sword for the third time in one hour and tiptoe towards the staircase.

My mom emerged from the doorway along with Paul and all of their neighbors. I dropped my sword and ran over to my mom to give her a hug.

"Thank Gods you're both okay!" I exclaimed.

"What were you doing on the roof?" I ask giving Paul a hug too.

"We saw somewhere that it's a good idea to get to high ground when there is a tsunami. So, we decided to get everybody to the top of the building," said Paul.

"That's really smart." I said.

"We know, Percy," said my Mom, "By the time it reached us, we decided it would be a good idea to get to the top of the building, since there wasn't any time to get it a taller building."

Honestly, I never would have thought of getting to higher ground. Then I heard a voice behind my mother.

"Percy? Why are you carrying a baseball bat?" It was Dorothea, the lady who owned one of the physic places down the street. I looked up at her sheepishly.

"When I got here, I couldn't find anybody. I might have freaked out a little bit, so I grabbed my bat just in case. I guess you could say I'm a bit paranoid." She nodded. My mom snorted disbelievingly. I'm usually really paranoid when it comes to my friends and family.

"Well it was nice see you again Percy." Then she left.

Mom, Paul, and I walked into the cold apartment and sat down on the couch.

"So, how's Annabeth doing?" Mom asked.

"She doing ok. She's in Boston with her dad right now," I told her.

"What's she doing in Boston? It's the middle of the school year. Winter break isn't in another three weeks."

"She just found out that her cousin, Magnus has been missing for two years, so she and her dad are helping to find him."

"Oh, that's nice," said Paul. "I hope they find him."

"Me too," I agree, "Why is it so cold in here?"

"The wave must've taken out the heating system," said Paul. My mom got up.

"I'm going to make us all hot chocolate," she announced, and she headed towards the kitchen. I got up to get blankets from the back room.

Paul and I were sitting huddled under the blankets when my mom came back in. She was carrying a tray with three steaming mugs and a plate filled with blue cookies and what looked like doughnuts. She set the tray on the table. Those were definitely doughnuts. AND THEY WERE BLUE! The thing that really got me though, was how she was able to make the hot chocolate. Our microwave didn't work because the power was out.

"How did you make the hot chocolate? Isn't the power out?" I ask.

"We have a gas stove, Percy. You don't need electricity for a gas stove," said my mom.

"Oh. Do you mind if I save one of these doughnuts for Blackjack? He loves doughnuts."

"Sure."

"Thanks!"
