Chapter Six Graduation

It was now May and I would be graduating soon. The school had offered me a job as a part time teacher. I would be going to another college to learn a few more things that this college didn't offer. My dad was impressed. I had also learned that he had to sell the house in Seattle and all his stuff had been shipped here. "Hey, Bella, what do you think about this dress?" Amita asked.

She took me out shopping for the day. I wanted something nice for graduation. She showed me a dress with a very loud pattern and lots of bright colors. "I like the colors but not the pattern," I said turning back to the rack that was in front of me. There were several dresses there and none were jumping out at me. We moved onto the next store in the mall. Dad and Charlie were at home planning my graduation party.

I finally settled on a dress that looked like a peacock feather and made from bright colors. It was a full length dress but a summer one. I went home with wedge strappy sandals to go with the dress. With the slight tan I had gained the dress would look quite nice. Amita also wanted to do my hair and makeup. I agreed having her around was like having an older sister. A few hours later I was back home and Amita went over to Charlie's.

"So how does it feel it be graduating from college before you're 18?" Dad asked as I came into the kitchen to get something to eat.

"Being the youngest feels weird, as it always does. I guess I had better get used to it; I'm going to be the youngest professor at Cal-Sci. I have no idea what I'm going to teach yet. I'll probably end up helping Larry," I said opening the fridge.

"So you're ready for tomorrow?" he asked. I just groaned. Graduation was always odd because they always had to announce that I was the youngest in the group. Before I knew it the day had come and I was on stage giving a speech. The whole graduation thing took a while because a lot of students were graduating today. The graduation had started at 11 and ended just after one.

Dad took me home with Charlie and his family along with Don's team following us. They had all come to my graduation. They were the only friends I had; I hadn't bothered to get close to the other students. I was busy with dealing with having been thrown into witness protection and losing my dad, leaving my friends behind, moving to another state with a completely different climate. Besides my brain worked almost five times faster than theirs. I didn't want to be the smartest kid in the room again used by the others to get their homework done.

My dad pulled into our driveway and the others followed. When I flipped the lights on balloons and streamers were everywhere. There were presents on the coffee table and a large cake on the dining room table. Twister was also set up in the living room. I loved that game. I smiled; this was going to be great. "Go get changed," dad said. I nodded and headed upstairs to take off my wedges and dress. I put on my favorite jeans and a long sleeved tee with slippers on my feet.

I came back down the stairs to see everyone in the living room; Colby, David, Don, Megan, Larry, Amita, Charlie, Allen, Ian, and Dad. I sat down on dad's lap, "Thanks for coming everyone and for everything else," I said. I had no idea what was on the table concealed in the wrapping paper. I sat down in my dad's lap and presents were passed to me. Charlie gave me his book on the mathematics friendship, and it was a signed copy. I couldn't wait to read it. Don gave me an acceptance letter into the FBI academy in Quantico so I could have my profiler training.

Colby gave me a book about profiling, David gave me an invite to a class hosted by the FBI about the most famous serial killers, Allen got me a couple of CDs from P!nk and One Republic, Megan gave me another book on profiling with notes from actual profilers. Larry gave me a pass to go in the flight simulator for the space shuttle on campus and Amita got me a new Ipod. Ian was going to take me camping next week for a whole two weeks and teach me how to track. I was excited. I thanked all of them eagerly. This was going to be so much fun.

"Sweetie," my dad said and I turned to look at him. He handed me a small box wrapped in silver paper. I looked at him confused before opening it. Under the silver paper was a small velvet box that was too big to be a ring. I opened to see a pair of earrings that were pure gold with diamonds shaped like wolves.

"Oh my god, they're beautiful," I said looking at him. He always spoiled me, anything I wanted, all I had to do was ask. "Thank you," I said putting them on. The rest of the party was a hit with my favorite cinnamon and white swirl cake which was very much like marble cake, just switching the chocolate for cinnamon. We then played Twister for hours in which Amita and I would end up being the last two on the mat. Sometimes she would win and I would win other times. It was a great day.
