She huffed one last time, leaving and shutting the door a little too loudly. The noise hurt Mike’s head. He was finally alone again. He didn’t know what it was, maybe the quiet, but lately, he preferred being alone.

While last night Mike did get some sleep, his eyelids were heavy. He continued to stare at the boring ceiling until he couldn’t keep his eyes open any longer.

Mike remembered falling asleep with nothing on his mind. If that was the case, why did he even dream at all?

He was transported back onto the roof. Everything looked the same as it had when he was on the roof; it was so real. Suddenly, it was like the world was spinning. On his left his saw the city, and just like that he was looking straight out at the water and the trees, then to his right where he saw the birds and then he looked back at the door. It did that again, but this time, stopped when there was a girl on the edge.

He approached her fast. She was just standing there, and as a breeze came it looked like it would knock her right off. Mike moved faster towards her.

When he finally got to her, he tried to call, to shout out, but he couldn’t make any noise. He did everything to try and get her attention.

He built up his courage and joined the girl on the edge. He touched her, turning her to face him.               They’re eyes met, and it was Fiona. He knew this girl. He tried to speak to her, ask her what she was doing; what was wrong; but again Mike was mute.

Her lips turned downward into a frown. There was something behind her eyes but Mike couldn’t make out what it was. She shrugged her shoulders and just looked at him. Finally he realized she couldn’t say anything either.

Mike began to panic. What was he supposed to do? His heart beat was climbing.

Fiona saw that he was panicking. She placed her hands on his shoulders, instantly calming him. She then leaned in closer, peering into Mike’s eyes. She lightly kissed him on the cheek, then let go of Mike.

She took a few steps away from him, never losing eyes contact. Mike reached out for her, and tried to call for her even though he knew it was no use.

She turned to face forward again and slightly leaned forward. In an instant her feet weren’t connect with the edge and she was falling to her death. For a moment Mike thought she looked graceful, but he was struck with fear almost as suddenly as he watched her fall below.

He was useless; there was nothing he could do.

Mike woke up with a jolt just before seeing Fiona connect with the cars and pavement below. His heart was racing, and he was covered in sweat.

He held his hands out if front of him; he could move. He tried to talk and he could. He slowly began to calm down, checking his surroundings and seeing that he was safe in his room.

His door was abruptly thrown open. He stayed on his bed; his heart still beating fast and drops of sweat gathering at his temples.

His best friend Randy stood tall in the doorframe, with his wild, blonde bed head. He gave mike a once over and he looked like he was going to be sick.

                "Are you alright man?”

Mike took a moment for himself. He closed and rubbed his eyes. Randy waited to say something else.

Mike opened his eyes and, although he was still confused he felt a little bit better and stood up. He made his way over to his friend, putting his hand on his shoulder.

“It’s been one hell of a night.” Was all he said as they headed towards the bathroom to get ready for the day.
