I am standing on empty tracks in the darkness. Loud train whistles make my head spin as a train comes rushing towards me. Everything is so loud that my head pounds in pain and I freeze with terror as bright lights rush towards me, blinding me.
Then something hits my body, so hard that my legs give way and my body collapses and locks in denial. I'm unconscious for a long period of time. My lifeless body laying on the tracks in the darkness. I awake for one, two-three seconds before going into shock from the impact and bright lights shine everywhere, so much that I can't see a thing. I can't move, I'm frozen and my bones feel stuck in place.
Something foul and sour floods my throat. Blood. I can feel it slithering its way down my throat, and I choke, the itchiness in my throat retreating as I spit the blood out on the ground. I don't know if I'm cold or hot; my body is shaking and covered in goosebumps and my insides feel like they are on fire. I feel myself stumble, blinded by a bright light and my numb body aches all over from my fall. I hear vague footsteps, getting louder every second. Everything in me is screaming for me to run. But i stand frozen and numb; blind and deaf, hopeless and lost.
I see people all around me, but I can't hear anything and my eyes are wide open and my body is stiff. I have no control over it.
The sharp pain of a syringe pricks me from behind, and I pass out from whatever injected me. When I wake up for the second time, I am in a white hospital room, strapped to a bed. My entire body throbs and feels like it is being crushed by a 500 ton truck, ten times over. My breath is stuck in my swollen throat, and my heart is burning along with my lungs and stomach and everything else. Every nerve in my body is moving and bouncing and my breath is quickened and caught in my throat. My jaw is shivering and I can't even scream or yell for help.
Someone comes into the room. I open my dry, cracked mouth to speak, but no words come out. "You want to know what happened? Honey, you were hit by a train."
Then it all comes flooding back to me as my eyes fly open, and someone's screaming, so loud it feels like I am deaf all over again and a white light makes my eyes widen and for a moment, it is all that I see. I realize the person screaming was me, and my jaw clamps shut, my throat raw and sore. My lungs are burning, and my face is stained with hot, wet tears. I am shaking all over, the distant echoes of the train in my throbbing head, shivers all throughout my body. I realize I'm in my bed and I fell asleep with the lights on, so I make my cold, stiff legs get up and I flip the light switch off, plunging myself in darkness. I blindly find my way back to my bed, pull back the covers and slip inside them, letting the warmth envelope me. I don't fall asleep again, I just lay in the warm blankets, shaking and crying, trying to forget everything. Trying to forget that I was ever hit by a train. Trying to forget that I escaped death.
