Chapter 1: Leaving

The school bell rang. Classes have ended.

The teacher ended with "Homework, page...."

Tyler has been dying to go home. He can always check with his classmates.

"Tyler, We've been waiting for you. Let's hurry home, I have too much homework", Tierra exclaimed, "Hurry!!".

That gave Tyler a fright. Standing at the door beside her is her older brother and Tyler's best friend, Ted. They all live under the same roof.

The two boys followed her out of school. At the front gate, parked a police car. A man exit the car and opened the doors. It was Chase, Tyler's father.

He have never picked them up before. Well, because they live nearby. Once Chase saw them, he hurried them into the car. He is still in his police uniform.

"Thanks dad, but don't you have work to do?", Tyler asked.

"Listen, when we reach home, pack everything you can bring with you, fast".

"I have archery practice tomorrow, and Ted also has fencing practice...."

"Just listen to me, it's good for all of you," Chase snapped.

Everyone in the car went silent. Something must have obviously happened. The initial thoughts were going on a last minute holiday, or sudden moving of house. No one had a clue, maybe except Chase. The car sped off.

Chase did not want to say anything because he did not want the entire household to panic, or alert the neighborhood. He promised Jason that he would take good care of Tierra and Ted while he is in Japan.

In front of the house was a Recreational vehicle (RV). It was new. The three teenagers left the car and walked to the house.

Chase opened the trunk of the car. In it was a bag of guns, and some non-perishable foods. He transfered them into the RV. They neighbors looked pretty much shocked. Chase didn't care. All he cared about was his family's safety.

Ted opened the door. Spike the puppy came over and greeted them. On the dining table sat Telena, Tyke and Tyki. Telena is Tyler's mother and Tyke and Tyki are Tyler's fraternal twin siblings. They were having lunch.

"You're home!", exclaimed Telena.

On the sofa were lots of bags. Obviously, Chase already told Telena. Telena does not know the full story but she knows she has to leave the town, and away from any other.

Apparently, Telena already packed the teenager's things. Chase entered the room and started carrying out the luggages and bags.

Tyler went to his room to see if there is anything else he can bring along. He suspected that they will be gone for a long time, just in case he is right.

As he entered his room, He was quite shocked. All the family photos hanging on the wall were gone. Maybe his mother already packed them.

Tyler looked around. All that's left were those unimportant stuff. Displayed on the floor was Tyler's grey guitar. It was a gift from his maternal grandfather. He said that he taught Telena how to play the guitar using this.

'I need this' Tyler thought.

"What about my dad? Does he know that we are leaving?" asked Tierra.

"I'll call him," replied Telena.

Telena whipped out her phone and dialed Jason's number. There was no dial tone. Probably his phone is off.

"I'll call him later."

Tierra wasn't pleased.

Tyler came out of his room and brought his guitar, and some more things to the RV. Spike followed him out. He sees his dad moving the luggages into the RV.

"You've still haven't said what this is about," said Tyler.

"Help me moves these stuff in"

"What's wrong with telling me?"

There was no reply. Chase did not want to talk. He did not want to cause panic.

Tyler got even more suspicious.

Then, Bethany, Tierra's best friend walked over. She saw that two of her neighbors, whom were also cops packing their things in their car. Bethany knew that Tierra lived with one. So, she came over. She sees Tyler.

"Where are you guys going? Tierra didn't say that she was going away?" asked Bethany.

"I don't know. My dad...."

"Annual Police's Family Vacation," Chase interrupted.

Packing was completed. All the things that can be carried around are already inside the RV.

Tyke was bored. He decided to switch on the television to watch some cartoons before going off. Tierra also has a cat. Her name is Fluffy. Tierra started grooming her.

"BREAKING NEWS..."

"Where's the cartoon?" Tyke complained.

The news continued, "Reports states that there are people who are eating other people..."

Telena switched off the remote immediately. The footage started to get gory and she did not want to scare the children.

"We have to leave now."

Everyone left in the house took the last few bags and boxes and exited the house. Tierra put Fluffy on top of the box.

The door opened and everyone rushed into the RV. Tierra was so happy to see Bethany.

"Hey Bethany!"

"There is no time for chit-chat," Chase interrupted, and literally pushed Tierra into the RV.

"Ugh!"

Tyler carried Spike to the vehicle. Everyone in the household is inside.

Then Chase's phone rang. He picked up the phone and Justine started talking.

"Chase, where are you? Hurry up! The news already said that the virus is here!"

Bethany just stood there.

"Where are you guys going?" asked Bethany.

"AHHH!!"

There was a sudden scream. Chase was standing at the door and looked at the direction where it came from. Then a lady can be seen running. Once she saw Chase in his police uniform, she ran to his direction.

"HELP!! A man is tearing my sister apart!!" she screamed.

The children in the RV heard and was petrified. Some were confused. Chase stood there, still on the line with Justine.

"Chase, just come to the entrance NOW.... Bye...."

Justine hung up.

Everyone that is outside their houses in their neighborhood were looking at Chase, wondering why he is just not taking action. The household in the RV was also staring at Chase.

That lady was really crying very badly. Chase knows that "tearing my sister apart" was the result of the virus.

Chase boarded the RV, started the engine and drove off.
