As I stood in the room waiting for my family, I tried to imagine what the other Tributes would be like. Just then, they came in. My siblings were bawling, my father was just starring into space, not wanting to make it worse, and my mother, the most hysterical of all of us, came up to me.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't know you would be chosen. But you can win this. You will win." It's the last thing I hear her say before the Peacekeepers drag them away.
"No, I get five minutes to say goodbye," I whined. "Goodbye!" They're gone. That's when the Peacekeepers pull me out onto the train to the Capitol. Cato was already on it, looking eager to kill.
"Why hello dear, aren't you glad you get to spend all your time with little ol' me?" He says this with that miscevious grin of his. This, of course, makes me smile. I walk past him, giggling a little. I can tell it amuses him.
The train's like nothing I've ever seen before. They had huge buffets, food upon food upon food, a whole assortments for different drinks, and what would have been my mom's favorite, the beer cart. I can tell Lixin also likes the beer cart 'cause he grabs like, 50 bottles. Now I see why he wanted to win; it wasn't because he wanted money. No, he wanted the beer. One of our mentors, Aniline, comes out and and I ask, "what are we going to do to survive?"
"Don't you know how to do that? I've seen what you bring everyday to the market. You've got food and survival down. What else would you need to worry about dear?"
"I'm sure she's just wondering what we should prepare to do once we get in the arena. Like where we'd find food in, let's say, a desert arena?" Cato speaks for the first time on the train.
"You'll find what you'll need. Like I said, you're good at hunting. Both of you. It seems like Miss. Clove is, drawn to the animals. Like she could find where any animals are." Aniline says this with enthusiasm.
"Well-" I don't get to say anything else. Cato interrupts me.
"We're here," he breaths out. I now see what he means. We've arrived at the Capitol. The place I had hopped I never would have the "honor" of being here. The train slows to a stop. The door opens slowly, and we step out into the light.
