As we stepped out into the blinding light, the first thing I see after my eyes adjusted to the light was people shoving microphones into my face. They were bombarding us with questions. I all I heard was blah, blah, blah, Clove tell about your family, blah, blah l, Cato why did you volunteer, and all that.
We didn't get to answer any of the questions, we were whisked away into the Capitol.
As we stepped onto our floor, I thought that we just stepped in heaven. There was so much open space. Everything was so beautiful, the furniture was unique, the carpet was unrealistically soft.
Cato says what I'm thinking, "There is no way this is where we'll be staying."
"Of course this is where you will be staying. This place is a place for people like you. Get ready to live like royalty," exclaimed Aniline.
Today, we get to dress like gladiators. I've seen what they look like from one of the books in my dad's library. We get on our chariot and ride on to the Tributes gathering area. Everyone is looking at us, I think, and then, the Tributes on the last chariot are literally up in flames. But they make it seem like it's nothing. Yay, now we know who to kill and if they live, we avoid.
Afterwards, we get out of our chariet and I see Cato starring at something. I follow his gaze and see that he's looking at the Tributes that were on fire. He clearly isn't pleased. Then someone who looks like cotton candy quickly rushed them off to the train. Cato's eyes follow them until they're out of sight.
Today was the first day of training. Cato and I were eager to start so we could show the other Tributes what we're made of. After the women was done explaining what we should and should not do, we went for the weapons we liked, Cato and his sword, me and my knives.
I'm throwing my knives at some dummy's and I see the girl on fire watching me. I can't tell if she is studying me or just watching me. I stop and see that she has a bow. I stand aside to see what she could do. At first I thought that she would miss; but then she made her first shot. It nails the dummy right in the center of the head. Then she takes out three more arrows and gets the other three in the head. So, we kept taking turns getting them in the head until she runs out of arrows and me my knives. As she turns to leave I say,
"Watch your back girl on fire." Then I give her a small smile. At first she look scared but then she smiles to.
"Don't worry, I will," she replies back. That was the last time I heard from her for the rest of the day.
The following day I saw her in the same place at the same time. We did the same thing: I threw my knives and she shot her arrows. The same thing day after day for the three weeks we were training.
On the last day of training, instead of saying 'watch your back,' the girl on fire said, "Good luck out there. And may the odds be ever in your favor."
