Rose

Something smells good, I thought, coming out of my deep slumber. It was a weird combination of two smells, actually. I took a deep breath through my nose and stretched before curling up into a ball again. As I absorbed the smell, I realized that it was two of my favorite smells - waffles and Calum. I didn't know I recognized Calum's smell. The next thing I realized is that I wasn't in my own usual blanket or my own clothes!

I squinted my eyes open to look down at the shirt I was wearing. It was a very comfortable but oversized t-shirt and then I looked lower and I was wearing nirvana smiley faced boxers. I laughed but then wrinkled my brow again.

When did I change? And where the hell even am I? I looked around at the posters and shelves and desk. I noticed a while shelf of soccer trophies and realized with a start that I must be in Calum's room. Ergo, I must be in Calum's bed and Calum's boxers. I connected the facts but I still couldn't seem to accept or really understand them. So, naturally, I sat there, open mouthed and idiotic.

I watched the door slowly open and I looked over quickly. Calum's head peeked in gingerly. When his eyes found mine, he instantly perked up to his full height and opened the door.

"You're awake!" he said with a happy smile as he jumped onto the bed to sit next to me.

"Yeah," I smiled back at him, giggling as I almost tipped into him as he made the mattress dip.

"Guess what today is?" he asked me with an excited and rushed tone.

"Um, I don't know," I said, "but when did I get here?"

"Last night, but that's not important," he said offhandedly, trying to focus me in his question.

"Okay but when did I change?" I pressed the subject. That question got his attention and he started blushing, rubbing the back of his neck.

     "Um," he cleared his throat.

     "Calum?" I prompted.

"Well you fell asleep on the beach and you never woke up and I couldn't find your motel room key so I brought you here and then you still were asleep but you couldn't be comfortable in that dress so I uuuh," his voice cracked.

"You changed me?" now I was blushing.

"I was careful! I put the boxers on under your dress and the shirt over your head before I pulled your arms out and pulled the dress off," he stammered.

"Wow, a regular pro," I joked to try and lift the cloud of awkwardness.

"Oh my gosh, no! I mean I don't do that often! I just, um," he blushed more furiously.

"It's okay, Calum," I said, "I'm just glad it wasn't someone else." I looked down.

He cleared his throat again, "So, anyway! Guess what today is??"

     "What?" I asked.

"ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY!" he exclaimed, throwing his hands up before wrapping me into a warm hug.

"Oh! Wow!" I said, I had totally forgotten.

     "Happy birthday, baby," he said.

"Thanks, Calum," I giggled and wrapped my arms around him. It melted my insides whenever he used that name.

"Hold on," he hopped up and walked to the door so quickly that I almost fell over on the bed.

"Don't go!" I whined, my voice scratchy from sleep when I tried to talk louder.
