A Walk In The Woods

Chapter 5

After Harper left it didn't take long for Korra to soon follow. It was just Leo and I now. 

"She was totally cheacking me out!" Leo nudged me in the stomach. 

"No, she wasn't." I stood up, was he talking about Korra or Harper? 

"Where are you going?" He asked. Gods, does he always have to be so nosey?

"I'm going for a walk." I said curtly. Hoping he wouldn't take it as an invitation, I headed off to the forest.

I had climbed up a tree and was sitting on the highest branch that would hold my weight. Glad to have the alone time, I leaned my head back against the tree trunk. Why had I accepted this quest? I was just here visting Percy! I hadn't had any intention of going on a quest! But somehow Chiron and Percy had convinced me that I needed to go. 

I looked down at the floor of the woods to see a shadowy figure pacing back and forth right below me. I put a hand on my sword hilt and jumped down. I landed right in front of the figure, drawing my sword. The person whipped around unsheathing two twin blades, one stygian iron and the other celestial bronze. I caught a glimpse of the stranger, they had long dark hair pulled up in a ponytail. She took the first blow, the stygian blade in her right hand arced up and down with blinding speed. I swung  up, blocking her sword and then broke away. I came in again with a side cut; she parried and darted back, circling me. She stepped into a strip of moonlight and I caught a glimpse of her face. 

"Harper?" I asked a bit shocked, I lowered my sword hoping she would recognize me. I guess she didn't. Her sword hilt locked with mine and in one swift turn she had disarmed me. She placed one blade across my neck and the other at my stomach. She pushed me into the light. 

I raised my hands in surrender, "Don't kill me, I'm on your side."

She lowered her swords. "It's...Nico, right?"

"Yeah." I picked up my sword and sheathed it. "What are you doing out here so late?"

"Couldn't sleep. You?" She sheathed both her swords. 

"Same." We stood there in silence. I looked her over, she wasn't the least bit sweaty or out of breath from our fight. Her swordsmanship was excellent, whoever it was that taught her must have had amazing skill.

"You don't stay at this camp often do you?" She asked abruptly.

"How did you know that?" I asked, defensivly.

She shurgged, "You just seem a little.....out of place."   

"Yeah," I chuckled, shaking my head, "Out of place." 

After a another long silence Harper sighed, "I guess I'll head back to my cabin. We'll be leaving early tomorrow, right?"

"Yep. Well, that is if we can get Leo out of bed." I rolled my eyes.

She smiled and we said our goodnights and goodbyes. I went to find Mrs. O'Leary and Harper went back to the Poseidon cabin. I fell alseep in the forest leaning up against the big dog.  I was lucky enough to have a dreamless sleep. Tomorrow was going to be rough, knowing my father he wouldn't make it easy for us in the Underworld. He never made it easy for anynone, but he made it even worse when he was angry. 

The next few days were going to be hard on us all.
