James talks in his sleep because he never shuts up during the day. Sirius sleepwalks on a regular basis. That's why he wears shoes to bed. Peter swears he heard them having a conversation one night about what the Honeydukes people put in Bertie Botts, but there was no one to back him up on it. If you try to wake Sirius up during one of his sleepwalking spells, he freaks out and runs into things without actually waking up. Because he has a hard time falling asleep, Remus typically goes looking for Sirius and brings him back if he notices that he's gone. Sirius has never had any recollection of his friends rescuing him.
