"Sunglasses?"
"Check!"
"Sunscreen?"
"Check!" My mom reads off a list as I go through my bag to see if I have everything. I'm packing a whole suit case because I'll be spending the entire summer at Camp Caniver, Where fun is guaranteed. I don't expect their motto to be directed towards me because I'm just going there to be a counselor. So basically its the fun of camp, just I get to boss everyone around.
"Mrs.Kent, I think you're forgetting one very important thing on that list of yours." Kay tells my mom, interrupting my thoughts. Kay is my tall, blond, blue eyed, and beautiful best friend. Unlike her, I'm a normal heighted brunette with gray eyes and a cute face. Despite our differences we've been groupies since diapers. You couldn't pull us apart if you tried. She's even coming along to be a camper so we won't have to miss each other this summer. As soon as she found out I got a job at Camp Caniver, she made it her duty to be there too. I don't know what you call that, but I call it love.
My mom gives Kay a questioning look, ''And what is that?"
Kay jumps up, runs into my closet, pulls out a forever 21 bag and yells,"Bikinis!!" I race to her and yank out the aqua colored one.
"Ahhhh! These are so cute!" I can't contain my excitement. Kay's is pink.
We jump around for a while until my mother clears her throat. We stop immediately.
Before she can say anything I shove the 2-piece to the bottom of my bag. She lets out a breath before she walks right out of my room. I can't see her face, but I'm almost positive that she just rolled her eyes. I shrug it off and turn back to my partner in crime.
"How much did it cost?" I ask. I would let her pay but it looks expensive.
"Thirty something dollars. No biggy." She jumps onto my bean bag before she begins, "So how many hot guys do you think there are gonna be? There better be a lot or this trip will not have its worth."
"What do you mean." I ponder.
"You know... If I don't get some action with at least one guy this summer, I'm going to get angry, and you won't like me when I'm angry." I laugh at her failed attempt to act like The Hulk.
"Well all we can do now is hope." My mom interrupts our little chat when she bursts back into the room.
I hear Kay murmur, "Ever heard of knocking?''
My mom must not have heard Kay's snide remark because she says, "You girls better shower and get to bed because you have to wake up early to get to camp tomorrow."
"Alright Mom." I smile and she walks out.
I shower first making sure I smell extra pretty for tomorrow. I guess Kay has the same idea because she walks out smelling like magic. We both snuggle up in my bed while music softly plays from my speakers. I set my alarm clock to 5 am because we have to be there by seven. I set the clock 2 hours ahead because its about an hour and a half drive just to get there, so we have to get breakfast and be out by 5:15.
As I begin to drift off I hear Kay whisper, "Night E, Love you."
The annoying buzz of my alarm clock jolts me awake. I turn over to Kay and her eyes are wide open. I jump back, "You could've at least pretended you were asleep instead of scaring the crap outta me." I croak.
"I could've, but seeing your surprised face was much more funny." She explains. Ignoring her words, I roll off my bed then jump into the bathroom. Kay follows. I brush my teeth, wash my face, and put on deodorant. Mirroring me, Kay does the same.
When we're done with everything we look... okay I guess. We wear our hair in ponytails and we have on booty shorts, a t-shirt, and Kay has on a little makeup. I told her not to put any on because she never knows if we're going to be doing anything that involves water today but she does anyway.
We race downstairs to the smell of chocolate chip pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon. We look to my mom and she says, "You guys won't be having a home-cooked meal for a few weeks so I thought I might give you one before you leave." She flashes an award winning smile our way.
"Wow. Thanks Mrs. Kent!" Kay exclaims happily right before we dig in. We finish our food in less than ten minutes because we have to be on the road to get to camp on time.
During the car ride, Kay calls her parents and says her goodbyes. The ride is pretty boring except for the part where Kay started singing songs by this band called, Never Shout Never.
Once we enter the camp we know that this summer is not going to be what it seemed.
