Chapter 7

Kay met up with me at breakfast today. It's was a relief to just hang out with my best friend again, without anyone else. She made sure that I would be taking part in the welcome to camp activities.

Not being able to say no to her, I decide to go, which is where I'm heading now. Luckily I don't have to present one of the events that are going on. I got out of having to monitor an activity by still pretending I was sick. My drained skin from exercising sure did help with that.

The whole camp is set up with odd games. I just have to wonder where they get all of this stuff from because there aren't many cabins.

There is a footy game set up, people kicking around a ball with campers cheering on the players. I see canoes on the water, and much more. Kay told me to wear the blue bikini she got me under my clothes so we could be doing any one of these things. I see her standing around with a group of people so I bring myself to her.

She's smiling like an idiot so I ask, "What are we doing?"

She starts bouncing on the balls of her feet, "It's like a water balloon fight with big round sponges!" She yells, clearly excited. "We are gonna get so wet!"

I love the way she can be so childish sometimes. It's like a reminder that we don't have to grow up so fast.

The guy hosting the station barely even cares so we just start the game. There are about a dozen buckets filled with water lined up next to each other. We are all on opposite sides of the bucket lines. The unenthusiastic counselor blows a whistle and we all charge to the buckets to get the wet sponge-balls. As soon as a sponge almost slaps me in the face I catch on that this isn't like a water balloon fight. It's like dodge ball.

I throw my heavy, water filled sponge at a girl on the other team. It smashes into her chest; I throw my hands in the air, celebrating. When I bend down to get another ball, something splats on my back and the cold water makes me shiver. I turn around to see who threw it. Kay is standing there  looking as innocent as ever, so it must've been her.

"I'm on your team!" I yell and everyone starts laughing. She has a smug grin on her face.

The game goes on for about fifteen minutes. Every single person who played is soaked. The wet clothes feel sort of refreshing with the hot summer sun beaming down on us.

Kay grabs my arm, "Come on, let's go do that." She uses her other arm to point to a large trampoline on the lake.

"Race you there." I say as I transition into a run. It's no use trying to race her because she has longer legs. She gets there seconds before me. We see teens jumping off of it and into the water, while some just jump.

A lady makes us wait before we can go on, due to it being too crowded. She kicks a few people off of it after a while and lets us on the floating trampoline. We jump around for a bit, trying to see who can go higher.

Kay comes over to me and holds my hands. It's a strange thing to do but I don't judge. We jump to the edge and I know what she's gonna do. She pushes me off of the trampoline, into the lake, then jumps in herself.

She floats closer to me, "Did I do that?" She says in the dorkiest voice ever. We swim back to land and start walking as the sun slowly dries us off.

I look around , observing all of the other things we can do. I spot the quiet girl from lunch yesterday. "Hey, isn't that Faith?" I cock my head towards her.

"Yeah it is." We go over to her. She's getting a butterfly painted on her arm. I can't help but laugh because it looks like she's getting a tattoo, the way she is positioned.

"Oh, hey guys." She says, careful not to move her arm.

We tell her about how we did the sponge dodge ball fight and how we jumped off the trampoline.

"All done." The guy holding the paintbrush says. Faith gets up.

"How about we go get some sandwiches. I am starving. Getting arm painting is hard work." We all laugh. She much more funny now than she was yesterday.

We march over to the cafeteria, the conversation not skipping a beat. We each grab a sandwich and a bag of chips. When we sit down Faith says, "Jenna told me she got a date with a really hot guy."

Kay and I both gasp, "With who?" We ask in unison.

"She didn't tell me that part. I just know that she's going on a date."

"Man, I need a summer love!" A few people turn to look at Kay. She doesn't care, "Jenna is already half way to having one."

I stay silent while Kay describes her dream guy. Faith has the same idea.

"So what do you want in a guy?" Faith asks me. They both give me their eyes.

I almost don't feel comfortable answering but I say, "Well he has to be taller than me."

When I stay silent Kay says, "That's it? What about all that stuff you used to say. He has to be beautiful. He must make me laugh. He has to be a prince." She makes a super girly voice when she impersonates me.

"Come on, I was like nine when I said that."

Kay playfully scoffed, "If you won't take the prince when he comes then I will." I weakly laugh. "Speaking of princes." She stares behind me, so I turn to see.

Zayn, Harry, and Louis walk in, their shirts wet enough so that you can see the fit bodies underneath.

I spin back around to the girls and they are practically drooling. I snap my fingers in their faces to get their attention. They're star struck when they look back at me.

"How can someone look so perfect." What are they talking about. Louis isn't the nicest person, Zayn makes me work out till I drop, and Harry tells me I look dead. How is that perfect.

Kay slaps her hands on the table a few times. "I hope they come over here."

"They're not-" I start.

"Here they come." Kay whispers, cutting me off.

"Eve!" Louis exclaims.

"Lou!" I yell right back. How come he's nice to me today, but a jerk yesterday? He confuses me. Harry clears his throat and I notice I've been staring at Louis. He looks a little uncomfortable. I quickly look away.

I wave to the other two without gazing at them. I feel a pair of hands grab my waist, and hoist me out of my seat. It's Zayn. I almost ask why but he says, "Your welcome." and takes my seat.

Harry waves his hands in a, come to me, movement. I obey making my way to him. He stepped a little away from the table.

I don't look him in the eyes when he says, "Sorry about calling you dead and all. It just slipped out."

"No worries." I say and try to walk back but he stops me.

"Are you sure, because you haven't looked at me this whole time and you left this morning mad."

"Well for one, I'm not staring at you because you look like you just won a wet t-shirt contest. And I promise, I didn't leave mad." The second part was a lie. I was mad. I sat in the shower for twenty minutes swearing my head off.

I give him a warm, but fake smile. At least he apologized.

We head back over to the table. Kay is telling them about some bonfire tonight. She tells them they should come and decides that I'm coming without even asking me by saying, "Eve's gonna be there."
