Author's Note: For some reason, whenever I italicize something it never stays there after I save the draft or publish it? I don't know what to do :/

I opened the folded sheet of paper.

Bennett Kadesee.

For some reason the name looked strangely familiar. A black and white image was printed in the corner. The tingling sensation of familiarity increased. Certainly I have met the person, but where. Perhaps on one of my other assignments?

"I know him!" Landon said, looking over my shoulder.

I stared at him. "What did you say?" Was I dreaming or was he reading my mind?

"I said I know him! He's that guy!"

"That guy..."

"Hey, I do know him. He looks familiar. I've seen him on the screens in the shopping complexes. Actor, maybe?"

"I don't think so," I contemplated with a frown.

"Er, is he a model? No, he's way too old... "

I sighed. "Do you actually know him or are you just messing with me?"

"No, no, no! Is he a...um..."

I didn't bother responding.

"POLITICIAN!"

I glanced up from the dossier. "Yeah, actually I just read that here." I acted calm, yet inside I was in shock. I knew him. Not just recognized his face, but legitimately met him and talked to him.

Usually I had no reservations about killing someone, after all there were billions of people on Earth. It was simply a job; a way to earn some money and eventually achieve my goals. People justified the killings of other animals saying that there were plenty left. I could say the same with humans. But, I wasn't a sociopath-- I didn't kill everyone who a hit was placed upon.

Bennett Kadesee was my godfather. When I was young, he would watch over me when my parents were gone, bring back trinkets from his exotic trips and made sure I wasn't causing trouble.

Landon interrupted my reminiscing. "Isn't he the guy who is like the only one who stands up to the king in the council?"

Yeah, he was. Lord Kadesse was one of the brave ones who fought for his morals and didn't allow Ameritus fall into a completely totalitarian government with my uncle at the helm. He rallied supporters to stop unjust laws and abuses of power.

"Hello? Are you gonna answer me?"

"You're annoying" I responded.

"And you're rude."

Landon and I had this weird relationship. We were always insulting each other, so outsiders might think we were hated each other but that was far from the truth. Besides the fact that he knew nothing about my past because I didn't trust him entirely, we are as close as can be. I guess you could call it a paradox.

Landon cocked his head towards me. "When's his expiration date?"

"Tomorrow at the palace." I flinched at Landon's apathetic words, although even I had said similar words myself. There was a guilt dragging my conscience down this time. How could I betray one of the few people who fought to make this country a better place? No, that wasn't my problem. I had a more self-centered problem with his upcoming death; Lord Kadesee had been so kind to me and continued to stay true to his principles.

"The palace? During the masquerade ball?" Landon looked at me incredulously, "Security is insanely tight these days. After the terrorists killed the Royal family, you know how on edge everyone is."

Yep, Uncle fooled everyone into thinking terrorists killed my parents and I. Even I was fooled at first, but, as I grew up, I realized he was the murderer. It was kinda obvious to me after I matured; his son tried to kill me after seeing I didn't die. Not obvious to anyone else though.

"I'll infiltrate it somehow whether it be as a maid or a lady. You know me, I always get the job done."
