Katherine POV
Once upon a time. Happily ever after. Everyone has a story, but where are all the happily never afters?
Is it wrong to want to hold onto what you love, when you know it will destroy a friendship? Queen Feylaira's words still echoed in my brain; but how far was I willing to go for love? This was my train of thought as I sung my mother's lullaby, just on the edge of Mermaid Lagoon. I could see the glittering flashes of the Mermaids glittering scales, like thousands of tiny star clusters.
"You sing well." One of the mermaids spoke, coming out of the water. I smiled at her.
"Thank you." I replied.
"Your the faerie girl they all talk about." She observed.
"I'm not that important." I sighed.
"Don't sound so sad. A faerie Prince loves you. It's a concept most girls your age only imagine."
"I'm just a girl. I'm not important. My mother was a faerie, perhaps. I can fly, but that's one talent. And I abandoned Peter Pan." I stated, trying to convince myself I was happier without him.
"Why did you do that?" She asked, her sleek body glittering in the light.
"Because a his friend, James, doesn't want me there." I answered, realising how stupid I must sound.
"What an awkward situation." She purred; but she didn't look amused, only severe.
"I wish I could disappear." I groaned, leaning back against the warm stones.
"You should try to go back and reason with this 'James.'" She suggested. I considered it for a moment.
"I think I will." I agreed. "Thank you." The mermaid smiled at me.
"Your very welcome." She replied, slipping beneath the water.

"Katherine?!" Tigerlily retorted, as she embraced me. "I was on guard, but there haven't been any attacks since you left, though. Peter is very... depressed, though."
"Take me to him." I told her.
"Of course. But he isn't seeing anyone other than Nibs and his closest friends amongst the Lost Boys." She explained. "Just don't tell him I let you in." She kissed my cheek.
She led me to Peter's tent, and lifted up the fabric, letting my crawl underneath, before giving me the thumbs up.
"Peter?" I asked. He was lying on his bed, flicking through a book.
"I told everyone I didn't want to see any lost girls- Katherine?" He looked up at me, bewildered. I smiled shakily.
"Hi." He stood up, and touched my cheek as if he didn't really believe I was there.
"You came back." He breathed.
"Yes." I answered. We hugged, and I wondered how I could have left him in the first place.
"Katherine, James left with the pirates three days ago." He explained. "Tinkerbell has gone to the Faeries to try and get them to fight for us."
"Fight for us?!" I retorted. "I didn't even know there was an us!"
"Kat; James wants you dead, because I told him that I never wanted to see him again after you left."
"Why did you do that?!" I asked, to worked up to notice that he just used my nickname.
"Oh, maybe because he was behind all those attacks?" He said sarcastically.
"Don't be stupid." I snapped.
"I stand by what I said about you. You are the prickly one." He wove his fingers into my long golden hair.
"Peter Pan. Faerie Prince. Willing to fight a war against his best friend. For a girl." I marveled.
"Your not just a girl, you're a faerie." He told me, I realised how close we were. Three inches and we would be kissing.
"What if I don't want to be a faerie?" I asked, turning away, and opening the curtain/door that led onto the balcony. The stars shone brightly in the sky, and I wondered what Bellatrix, Aylee and Jane were doing.
"You don't have a choice." He replied.
"Unless I... Unless I sacrificed myself, to stop this war." I suggested. Peter grasped my shoulders so hard it hurt.
"Never say that. Don't even think it." He hissed, holding my jaw so I was forced to look into his azure eyes.
"Peter, let me go." I pleaded. "Please."
"No. You will remain where I can see you at all times. I will never let you go."
"Never, is a very long time." I whispered, wrapping my hands around his wrists.
"Good." He replied bluntly.

I woke the next morning on the bed that had been moved into Peter's room for me. I wasn't allowed out, and when Peter wasn't there, two guards were posted outside the tent. Tinkerbell visited twice that day, but time seemed to lag, almost as though someone was struggling to pull the sun in the oposite direction, but the sun was still moving; only slower. I sat on my bed, fiddling with the latest addition to my wardrobe, humming the tune to my song, when Peter arrived.
"This isn't meant to be a punishment." He stated, after I didn't aknowledge his presence.
"I know." I replied calmly. "Your just being over-protective to keep me safe."
"Exactly that. Please, don't get mad." Don't get mad?! I'm dying of boredom, and he's telling me not to get mad?! He should be lucky I'm not going mad! "Don't give me that look." He stated after I glared at him.
"It's this is the love everyone talks about and wants, kill me now." I muttered, rolling my eyes and flopping onto my bed.
"Katherine, please just understand that we will fight, and win this war. Just wait and see. Everything is going to be fine."
"Fine. Fine. Fine." I murmured. "It's going to be fine, Katherine. James is just going to let it go, after we get rid of a few of his men."
"Exactly." Peter stated, and I wondered how anyone could be this naïve. I knew then and there, that we were doomed.
