(YN) sat at the steps of her grand manor, fidgeting the hem of her chiton as she anxiously waited for the messenger to arrive with a letter from her exiled husband, Ishido.
Yes, Ishido Shuuji was exiled from Rome, their homeland, and was banished to live in Tomis –a bleak spot near the mouth of the Danube River. (YN) can only imagine the harsh and sorrowful suffering her husband must've endured while he unwillingly travelled from their home to a foreign city, miles and miles apart from her.
But alas, the Emperor Augustus was stubborn man. He exiled him for unknown reasons and closes his heart to (YN)'s plea to take back his severe order of banishment.
And now it's been months since the day he has departed and the only source of comfort that rejuvenated her were the poetic letters her husband has written her.
Those beautifully crafted texts of pure and restless love fills her heart with such joy and relief that it makes her cry every time she reads them.
From afar, a figure clasping a piece of papyrus came running towards her. A smile made its way to her lips as she ran up to meet the boy and joyously took the letter from his hands in exchange for 3 pieces of gold. She bid him farewell and ran up to her room to open the rolled up letter. Sure enough, her husband's handwriting greeted her. Carefully and lovingly she read the letter.
Dearest (YN),
I pray to Venus, the goddess of love, that you have received my letter once again.
Times here are hard without your dainty and loving hands to help me. I have grown weak and weary under these calamities and the roof over my head feels cold without your radiance.
I miss you.
The gods themselves know the intensity of my longing for you.
I am lying here worn out, among the remotest of tribes and regions... and you... my darling wife...occupy more than your equal share in my heart. My voice names only you. There's not a single night nor day where I cry out your name in hopes that the gods can send me a miracle and grant me a chance to see you once more.
My body craves for your embrace; my ears yearn for your sweet voice.
I'm afraid this letter will be short for my tears have started to fall once again. What can I say? I miss you too much my love. And sometimes, tears hold the weight of unspoken words.
May the gods bless and protect you while I am gone, dear wife. And may that beaming smile and loving eyes meet me at the day of my return.
Yours forever,
Ishido Shuuji
(YN)'s eyes began to tear up as she re-read the letter over and over again. Her heart begins to ache as her fingers trembled to let the letter go.
"I miss you too..." was the only thing she can say, after leaving the letter on the bedside as she closed her eyes and slept, hoping that somehow those words would find their way to her beloved Ishido's ears.

A few years later, (YN) woke up to the feeling of someone stroking her hair. When she opened her eyes, she saw Ishido looking down at her with tears in his eyes and a smile on his lips.
"I'm home" he said. Then and there (YN) teared up... she feared that she will never hear her beloved husband's voice again.
She wanted to say something; to tell him how much she misses him, to tell him about the cold nights she had to endure without him and how much she worried about him...
But she didn't say anything...she only kissed him as passionately as she could.
For Ishido, that was more than enough. He kissed her back and pulled her closer to her, promising that he'll never let her go. However, it seems as though he can't utter a single word. All he could do was cry as he heard his beloved wife cry of happiness for him too.
Sometimes, tears hold the weight of unspoken words.

Me: and that's Ishido what did you guys think?
Toramaru: we hope you liked it, because there are tons more where that came from!*smiles* right nee-chan?
Me: *nods* by the way, the letter (and storyline/backstory) was adapted from the Roman Poet Ovid's letter to his third wife while he was exiled for 9 years. So, credits to him for being such an amazing writer and a loyal and loving husband.
