When you're dreaming with a broken heart waking up is the hardest part

She took her hand and tucked away the small strand that escaped the rest of my hazelnut brown hair.
"Cody... what happened?" Layla said looking at my split lip and all the cuts and bruses on my face.
I looked to the side embarrassed and felt a hand on one of the bleeding scratches on my cheek. I flinched and let out a curse word.
Layla slowly turned my head to face hers as she gave me a disapproving look, "Don't tell me you went out fighting again."
Looking down gave her the dreadful answer that she hoped wasn't true.
She reprimanded, "Cody! I told you to stop! It's not like you even like doing it..."
I felt anger bubble up in my chest, because I was doing this for her. Though it really wasn't her fault, she didn't know that I was. "Shut up Layla," I hissed out.
She looked at me astonished, "Shut up? Seriously?! I just don't want you to get hurt! Look at you right now!"
"I'm not going to stop Layla. I won't change for you. I won't fucking change for anyone." That was a lie. I changed my whole life for her, but she didn't need to know that.
Layla's beautiful eyes started to tear up, "But you said you would... You said..."
I laughed menacingly causing her to flinch slightly. "You knew what you were getting into when you got with me. I warned you Layla. You know what? Just leave. Leave like the rest of them." I spat out.
My menacing glare would've sent any normal person running, but not Layla. All she did was sit down in front of me and pull me in. I breathed in her vanilla scent and stayed limp in her arms. Comfort. That's what I felt and something else.
"I'm so sorry Cole for asking you to change..." She whispered softly, her lips brushing the top of my ear. "If fighting is a part of you, then I'll love it too I guess."
Love. That's what I felt. I remembered how in love I was with this girl.
"Im not going anywhere."

Suddenly, I woke up. I looked around finding that I was in my bed and not near the place of the tournament I was in.
I ]noticed that beside me wasn't the blonde haired, grey eyed beauty that I fell in love with.
"Im not going anywhere," I whispered shakily, my voice slightly cracking, repeating the words of my lost girl.
Filthy lies. Everyone leaves.

You roll out of bed and get down on your knees, and for a moment you can hardly breathe

Laying in bed, I looked up at the plain white ceiling. The white reminded me of her beautiful pure innocence so I turned away as quickly as I could. But then I laid eyes on the pillow next to me and saw her face smiling at me lying down on that pillow. I groaned and finally just stuffed my face into the own pillow. Every single thing reminded me of her and the pain she left behind was overpowering.
