Two Hundred Years Ago

Sesshomaru leapt through the trees, following the trail of the scent. It was a peculiar scent, one that wasn't unlike Inuyasha's and his own, yet had a different twist to it. It also had a faint trace of his father, the Inu no Taisho, who had died just six years ago.

His eyes narrowed. Why did he suddenly catch this scent? Whom did it belong to? And why did they have the scent of his father? He increased his pace, and soon picked up the sound of----- crying? A human child.

Soon, he found himself in an opening of trees. A young woman lay dead before him at the base of the tallest tree, covered in deep slash marks. The work of demons. The woman had the scent of a demon, yet was human. A half demon.

Beside her, curled up under her mother's protecting arms, was a young child, maybe just five years old, and still alive, having survived the attack. Sesshomaru sighed. Probably the half demon mother drove the demons off before she died. Humans, with no purpose or worth.

He raised his hand, ready to kill the girl with his claws, when he stopped. The girl had lifted her head, staring at him with large golden eyes, just like his own. Her silver white hair hung down to her shoulders, and her ears were pointed. Her small hands had claws instead of fingernails, and she looked up at him with no fear at all.

His eyes widened in shock. This girl----there was no mistaking it. She had the scent of the Inu no Taisho, as well as the half demon mother. Those golden eyes, that silver hair, there was no doubt that she was a child of the Inu no Taisho.

Sesshomaru slowly lowered his hand. So this was what his father had meant when he said that there were things he needed to do, before he went to rescue Inuyasha and Izayoi from Takemaru and met his death. But why did he father this girl? And just when did he father this girl?

Father. What were you thinking? There was no way he could kill a girl of his own blood, his own half sister. There was only one thing he could do.

He leaned down and placed a hand on the girl's forehead. "Sleep." He said.

The girl gave him one last look, before the spell took effect and her eyes closed, falling asleep. He then erected a barrier around her, placing a seal on it. There. Sleep here, until you wake.

Two Hundred Years Later, Before Kagome's Return to the Feudal Era

"Koga! Wait for me!" Ayame called, hurrying after her husband, who reluctantly slowed down.

"Hurry up, or you'll be left behind."

"Is that how you talk to your wife?"

He gave her a teasing smirk. "Yes. After all, I'm the chief."

She elbowed him in retaliation, and he chuckled before racing off again. She groaned, then ran after him.

Suddenly, Koga skidded to a halt in front of a clearing. Ayame frowned, slowing down and walking over to his side, taking his hand. "Is something wrong?"

Koga didn't reply. Instead, his eyes were fixated ahead of him. Ayame turned to see what he was looking at, and gasped. At the base of a tree, fast asleep, was a young girl, perhaps fourteen or fifteen years of age.

"What's this?" Ayame asked, reaching out. Her fingers met something hard, which then fell away.

Koga gritted his teeth. "Someone's placed a barrier around the girl and sealed it. It's been here for a long time, otherwise it wouldn't have fallen apart when you touched it." He took a step forward, sniffing. "This girl------she smells like a dog demon, with a hint of human. She must be a half demon."
