CHAPTER 1

**Kayla POV**

"Mom. Do I really have to go? Why can't I just stay home?"

"Kayla you are going to their house wether you like it or not, no questions asked."

My mom was making me go to her friend Laraine's house for no reason at all. They have always been best friends and our families used to do everything together until I was in middle school. Because my parents got divorced and my mom got really depressed. Laraine has two sons, Keaton and Wesley. Keaton is 17, I am 17, and Wes is 19. My mom and Laraine used to talk all the time about me growing up and marrying one of them, but honestly, I could never see that happening.

"Kayla, come on, I'm not leaving without you, and we are leaving now!"

I rolled my eyes and got into my moms car. Laraine lives 45 minutes away, so that made me even more excited to go.

My mom was really excited to go though, because she is her best friend, and they haven't seen eachother for like 8 years.

We finally pulled up to their house after what felt like 5 hours, and I was really dreading walking in that door. My mom basically dragged me out of the car as we walked up to their front door. My mom rang the doorbell and Laraine opened the door. Her and my mom were too busy hugging eachother to notice me at first. 'Ehm." I said to get their attention. "Kayla! You're gorgeous! And so grown up! You look so different! How have you been I haven't seen you in forever!" I was trying to answer all of her questions at once when I heard foot steps coming down the stairs. "Wesley, Keaton remember Kayla?" Laraine said really excitedly.

Wes and I made awkward eye contact before Keaton stepped up and gave me a hug and saying "Gosh I haven't seen you in forever!" Then Wesley did the same. I honestly do not remember him being this attractive..At all. Maybe coming here wouldn't be so bad after all..

At dinner we all sat talking about old memories and things Keaton, Wes, and I used to do. I admit, some of the stuff was kind of funny, but for the most part, I kept quiet because I was too busy playing the "I'll look away when you look at me and then look at you when you aren't looking" game with Wes. His body is so in shape and his teeth are so white, and he looks so..perfect.

"So Kayla," Laraine asked me. I looked at her raising my eyebrows wondering what she was going to say next. "The boys must be all over you! Do you have a boyfriend?" My eyes widened at her question and I replied "Thanks for the comppliment, but they really aren't. So no, I don't have a boyfriend." I said laughing a little. I could feel Wesley's eyes on me and I'm actually glad she asked that awkward question because now Wesley knows I'm single.

I NEVER imagined I would be thinking these things. He probably doesn't think I'm pretty. Honestly, with his good looks, he probably has a girlfriend himself.

**Wesley POV**

Man, Kayla was not how I remembered. She's so gorgeous. And I'm happy my mom asked that question, and I'm glad she's single.

That's weird to think about. We used to do everything together. We used to have sleepovers with Keaton all the time in Kindergarten and watch movies and try to stay up all night, even though my mom would never let us, and we always ended up crashing around 9 pm anyways. Some of my best memories are with Kayla. I'm glad our parents are becoming close again.

After dinner my mom insisted I take Kayla upstairs and show her around. As we walked upstairs I finally got the guts to talk to her. "So are you still in high school..?" I asked without looking at her. "No, I just graduated last month." she said. "That's awesome. " I said.

"So are you and Keaton still making music like you guys used to?"

"Actually we are! Now we are in a real band called Emblem3. Me, Keaton, and our friend Drew. Remember him? " "Oh yeah!" she said with a cute smile on her face "I do remember him! The four of us used to pretend we were famous and Keaton always ended up being our butler!" We both started laughing. "Yeah, we had some good times. We were on this past season of X Factor and came in 4th place! So we are really excited about what's to come in our careers." I said, things beginning to get less awkward. We sat up in my room talking for a while, reminessing on old memories.

"So Kayla," she looked up at me. "You really are different from the last time I saw you."

She shot me a weird look. "Weird different or bad different?" "Good different." I said, smiling a little. She started to smile too. "You've changed too, Wes."

"How so?" I said as we stood up heading to the balcony attached to my room. "I don't remember you being this attractive." She said, not making eye contact and playing with her long brown hair.

"You know, Kayla, I was thinking the same thing about you."

A few minutes later Kayla's mom called us to come back downstairs because they were leaving soon. I didn't want her to leave. We were really catching up. And I really like her.

We exchanged numbers really quick and headed downstairs.

"So did you guys do some catching up?" My mom asked.

We both looked at eachother and smiled and nodded.

"Alright Kayla we should get home now." Her mom said.

We all exchanged hugs and i shot Kayla a wink before she went out the door. I couldn't wait to see her again.
