As the happy family reached their front door, Kate's hands became sweaty. She felt very dizzy. Her heart was beating so hard, she thought it would pop out of her chest. Her mom turned the door handle. Her dad realized Kate looked nervous.
"Are you okay Kate? You look a little pail."
"I think so. Just a little bit nervous."
"Of what?"
"I don't know." Kate lied. She didn't want to scare her little brother.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. I'm sure."
Her mom opened the door.
"Kate!"
"Yes?"
"Why didn't you clean up your trash from your snack?!?"
"I did." Kate said without looking up."
"No you didn't! Look!"Kate's mom yelled.
Her trash was laid out on the table as if she never had picked it up before she left.
"See! You didn't. Stop lying! Your grounded! You will have to stay in the house for a week straight. No playing outside. You will come to and from school without any pit-stops. Got it?"
"Yes Mam." Kate said miserably. She understood. She new her mom wasn't gonna believe her. After all, she would just have to stay in her house for a week. Sometimes all alone with the ghost!
"Mom, please don't punish me! I'm sorry. I just...forgot."
"Sorry sweetie, but I already made my choice."
"Please Mom!"
"Do you want me to make your punishment longer?"
"No Mam." That was that. There was nothing Kate could do to change her mom's mind. She was just gonna have to face the ghost on her own and she has until tomorrow to figure out how to do it.
