You wished you could say you were excited to be entering the town of Gravity Falls once again, but the truth was, you were dreading it wholeheartedly. This wonderfully mysterious place was your hometown but the last time you were here, well, let's just say things didn't end well. You were thirteen, just a tiny, naive child, as were your friends Dipper and Mabel Pines; their ages fell just a year under yours. You enjoyed adventuring with them each and every day. A new sunrise just meant a creepy, wondrous, or just flat out weird thing to discover for your "mystery team" until one day your snooping brought about a certain dangerous dream demon.

You shivered, remembering his insane cackling and the way he terrorized you and your friends all summer. No matter how hard you tried, the triangular, yellow devil always managed to outwit you, bothering you to no end. He even overshadowed Dipper and used him to try and coax the journals from your possession!

All of these things were just minor annoyances to the mystery crew until the demon, Bill Cipher, revealed his true goal: Domination over our dimension! Before you knew it, an apocalypse engulfed the quaint town of Gravity Falls and you were riddled with guilt. It was all your fault! You never should've sneaked into Dipper's room and searched his journal for the answers you all craved so badly. Granted, you were only trying to help poor Dip who would fall into deeply somber moods when he couldn't solve a case but you really should've taken it to heart when the words "do not summon at all costs!!!" were spread across the page in dark, ominous letters.

A deep, shuddering sigh escaped your lips as you peered out of the bus window and spotted the large wooden sign welcoming all to Gravity Falls. Flashes of Weirdmaggedon burned in your mind. Images of Dipper confessing his love for you, townspeople and your loved ones screaming as they were turned to stone, and Bill taunting you saying all this chaos was thanks to you scrolled by like a horrific slideshow. Most importantly of all, you remembered the sheer and utter hurt in Dip's eyes when you told him you could only ever be his friend. The sight of it tore you apart, like your heart was dropped in a blender set on "obliterate." You couldn't handle all of the pressure anymore. Mabel was captured, Bill just wouldn't stop harassing you, and poor Dipper kept flashing you that painfully fake grin and he would say over and over, voice cracking, "everything is going to be OK, (y/n)!"

What happened next, you weren't proud of.

You ran.

You ran from Gravity Falls, from all the chaos, from all the people you'd let down, but no matter how far you traveled the weight stuck on your shoulders like two jagged boulders ever present in your life.

You were nineteen now, an honest adult, and it was time to fix things starting with Dipper. He was the one you'd hit the hardest so he needed to be number one on your apology list! Would you tell him it was you who summoned Cipher in the first place? Probably not, but you would make sure he damn well knew you were sorry for leaving without warning. If he wanted to slap you, yell at you, or just plain ignore you it was all fine as long as you got this agonizing weight off your chest.

It was only a minute or two until the bus finally screeched to a halt at its first stop, the Mystery Shack. As you you glided down the rusty metal steps, the familiar scent of pine trees and burning wood hit your nose. You immediately felt relaxed, your heartbeat - which had been crazily erratic up until now - began to slow, easing some of the tightness gathered in your chest. A quick scan of your surroundings revealed that things were relatively normal, different, but normal! The "Mystery Hack" sign no longer emblazoned the rooftop but instead laid propped against the side of the house, even the words above the doorway were blacked out with sloppy, dark paint.

You scratched your head, pulling your fingers through your (h/l) (h/c) strands, your small backpack of belongings bumping against your spine as you hopped up the wooden stairs leading to the entrance, just like you'd done so many times before in your life. You lifted a shaky fist, holding it just an inch from the door. Suddenly, you couldn't breathe. What would Dipper say? Would he forgive you? What if you knocked and discovered your most precious childhood friend hated your guts? Could you take that chance?
