------------

Seth's POV:

"Not a chance" I growled into the phone.

I heard my 'father' sigh on the other end. "Seth, please. Do this for me"

"Do this for you? How about shove a-" I stopped talking when Evie appeared out of nowhere. She raised her hands as if surrendering before backing away slowly. I rolled my eyes. This girl.

"Seth. I'm not going to ask you again."

"Good, then get off the line and stop bothering me"

"Don't make me-"

"Don't make you what 'dad'? Are you threatening me again? First throw a maid at me then force me to this event. I'm don't count myself part of the 'family', I am not going to Henry's!" I hung up the phone and flung it down on the couch.

Evie slowly peeped around the corner, chewing on her lip nervously. It was as if she thought I would kill her if she did something wrong.

She didn't looked pleased when I gave her the name Evie. She gave me a strange look and just a small nod. I liked it, better than Evangeline anyway. It was a cute name, it sounded like this pokemon that I used to own on my pokemon games.

The smile immediately washed off my face, "What?"

She looked down, "I... Can you please help me? It's okay if you can't, I just-"

Dammit, what did she do?

I pushed myself up from the couch and she jumped. I ignored her action and walked past her, into the kitchen where she came from. "What?" I looked around.

She weakly raised her hand and pointed to the wall.

I squinted.

Then I saw it.

The tiniest spider I had ever seen. Barely the size of her baby finger's nail. I looked down to her, "The spider?"

She looked up at me, fear clear in her eyes before nodding her head slowly. "You're scared of that tiny creature over there?"

She nodded her head again, "Can you please get it out?" Her voice was barely a squeak. I let out a sigh and walked forward toward the spider.

"Don't kill it! Just set it free"

"I thought you didn't like them?"

"I don't. Doesn't mean it deserves to die" She frowned. I hadn't planned on killing it but I thought she wanted it dead.

I scooped up the spider in my hand and looked back to her. She was gone. I glanced around in confusion before she slowly peeped around the door, her eyes locked onto my hand.

I opened the kitchen window and threw it out before closing it. She let out a relieved sigh and walked into the kitchen now. "Thank you, Sir"

"I told you, don't call me that"

"Master?"

"Are you trying to seduce me?" I asked, "It's not working"

Her eyes widened and her face pretty much turned rosy pink. She shook her head furiously, "No, I didn't mean it like that. I'm sorry, I-"

"It's a joke" I frowned. Okay, I sucked at jokes but I'm pretty sure anyone would have been able to tell I was messing.

She was annoying at first and I had thought of every single way to get her out. Now she was... tolerable but still annoying. Literally, one of the clumsiest girls I met. She got on my nerves easily though.

"A joke? Oh..." She seemed surprised.

"I'm not going to kill you Evie, stop looking so scared all the time"

"Why don't you call me Eva?" She asked out of the blue.

"Does everyone call you Eva as a nickname?"

She nodded her head.

"That's why. I'm not everyone. I like my own things. I like the name Evie, so that's your name. It suits you"

"Suits me?" She tilted her head.

The corner of my lip twitched. The way she acted now... she was like a clueless dog. The way she tilted her head and just asked simple words. The way she would get so nervous if she did something wrong-

Did you just compare your maid to a dog?

Don't say your maid.

"Yeah" I pushed past her, the serious look returning to my face. To my surprise, I heard her light footsteps following me.

"Can I ask you a question?"

"No"

"Oh"

I let out a sigh, "Fine"

She looked down and played with her hands nervously. "Hurry up" I groaned. I had little patience and she was not helping right now in anyway.

"I forget what I was going to say" She quickly said.

"No you didn't" I sighed, "What do you want to ask?"

"I really do" She held up her hands, "I'm going to go back to cleaning" She turned away but I quickly grabbed her wrist. At the touch she flinched and her body seemed to tense. Hesitantly she turned back to me, her eyes slightly narrowed.

It was as if... she was expecting me to hit her?

"Answer me. Aren't you a maid? You do what you're told"

She avoided all eye contact but nodded her head, "Uhm... I was just wondering... why were you so angry on the phone?"

"Dumb family sh*t" I rolled my eyes. That was the damn question? She was that scared to ask it. I couldn't help but shake my head, what was wrong with her?

She nodded her head and began walking away, pulling her wrist from my grip. Just before she left the room she turned back to me, "You should appreciate your family more... Sir"

I cocked an eyebrow, "Oh really? If you appreciated your family, wouldn't you be living with them? Don't try say that cr*p to me when you have family issues as well" She swallowed, and dropped her eyes.

"Sorry" She mumbled before leaving the room.

You're such an d*ckhead.

Whatever.

I stared at the door for another few seconds before turning away and heading up the stairs with a sigh. I walked into my own personal, gym room and pulled my phone from my pants. I looked down at my clothes. This top was sh*tty, might as well use it.

I picked up my earphones from the stand before hearing a thump downstairs. I walked of the room and glanced over the banister, my eyes landing on Evie who had fallen over next to the couch.

I bit my tongue from calling her clumsy and instead forced out an "Are you okay?"

She looked up to me in surprise, probably not expecting me to be there. "Fine" She squeaked before disappearing and running back into the kitchen. I shook my had with a sigh and returned to the workout room.

I closed behind me and plugged my earphones into my phone. I pressed shuffle on the playlist and turned the volume up to full blast so it was the only thing I could hear.

One hour to shut myself out from this world and go to my own place.
