I Do Know That

The crisp winter air sent shivers through my body. In a refreshing way. I pulled my gloves over my pale hands, which were slightly tinged with a frosty blue. Not that I could really call them gloves anymore. They were thin knitted navy blue and my fingernails stuck through the material, making them fingerless gloves instead. It was still better than nothing.

I spotted Yugyeom from across the yard, sat on the icy ground, leaning up against the rough bark of an old tree, and reading a book. He looked so at peace, and I envied him a little. My shoulders rose with the cold breeze, and as I exhaled, my breath looked like flecks of snow in front of me.

I shuffled over to Yugyeom, past the old swings, trying to think of something to say that wouldn't make me completely sound like worthless trash. He still hadn't noticed me yet. I was still invisible, even to him. I plonked down next to him, and he looked up from his book at me with a smile.

"Already had lunch?" He asked brightly, sticking his bookmark into the open page before closing it.

"Mm-hmm," I nodded. I felt a little guilty for ditching him, but when an opportunity is there to fit in, you take it. Always.

"It's cold, isn't it?" He shivered over dramatically, and my lips twitched into a small smile.

"A little," I admitted.

"Well, if I had a coat I would offer it to you...but I don't, so this will have to do," He sighed. His arm wrapped around my side like a blanket.

"Thanks," I mumbled, pulling my scarf over part of my face.

"You're always telling Bambam not to hang out with Junior and those popular kids," Yugyeom muttered. He's right, I do. I think that they'll have a bad influence on him, or that they'll use him, or just do something plain mean to him. He was asking me a question without really asking.

"I got partnered with Jinyoung in class, and we have to do that poster homework together," I explained. It was the most I'd said for a while. I'm surprised I hadn't lost my voice, and Yugyeom looked a little shocked too, but in a good way.

"Oh, okay! I was just worried, because they really aren't the nicest bunch of people,"

"You shouldn't worry," I sighed. I'm my own problem, not Yugyeom's.

"I'm sorry, I can't help it," He smiled, and held me a little tighter. "And I'll always be here, whether I'm annoying you or not!" He teased.

"I do know that,"

He was always there for me, and I had no reason to doubt him yet.
